His family was not particularly rich, so he started working since he was 14.
London started writing at the age of 22 and became a journalist for the American publishing company Hearst; then he published a number of short stories in magazines.
When The Call of the Wild  was out, he soon became a famous author worldwide; he wrote more than 50 books but his most popular works are his dog stories.

The Miller family had lots of dogs but Buck was the most brilliant: he had great qualities and was not afraid of anything; everyone loved him.
The Klondike Gold Rush had started in a couple of days and Buck would soon be part of it.
Every gold-seeker in the north needed a dog like him so Manuel, the gardener's helper, decided to sell Buck secretly to make few dollars.
At this point, Buck's life began to be much more difficult and hard.
The dog was put on a train and he reached San Francisco, then Seattle.
In Seattle there was a man in a red sweater who abused of all the dogs that people sent to him for selling, even Buck was one of his victims.
One day, two French men needed a strong dog to pull the mail sled on the extended Alaska's ice sweeps and our main character seemed to be perfect for this kind of job; this was only the first chapter of his new experiences.
However, life was getting harder: new places, new rules, new friends but also new enemies.
Buck became more confident with himself and improved his skills and habits as well.
After several adventures spent with his French masters and the other sled dogs on the way to Alaska and back, it was time for men to leave their team because they found a better occupation.
Later, the team had three new masters but they didn't knew a thing about sleds or Husky dogs: they were so incompetent that lose all the dogs and broke the sled on a iced lake.
This can be defined as the worse experience ever.
Anyway, if after a hurricane comes a rainbow, even for Buck it was so: he found a new master, Thornton, a person full of kindness and happiness, a person who treated him better than everyone until that moment.
The Husky dog was finally cheerful again.
Thornton was a gold-seeker so he was looking for a golden cave, and he found that: a rich valley where there were forests, lakes, beautiful flowers and gorgeous landscapes.
While the master was doing his job, Buck was laying down staring at him: what a boring thing.
Time was running out, day by day the dog started feeling inside his wild instinct; specifically, he felt the wild calling him.
Buck missed so much his previous adventures between the green and brown vegetation, but was too afraid to leave his lovely master.
He started spending nights and nights in the forests: he met a wolf and suddenly they got to know each other, they played together, run together, howled together... Now Buck could feel himself back home once again.

The plot is interesting but, above all, also intriguing; maybe some of the names are quite difficult to remember and could make a little bit of chaos in your head, but the most important ones are already imprisoned in your mind at first sight.
