Ximena Coloma

In my opinion I think belonging to TCK is neither good nor bad, I take an intermediate position, since being part of TCK is a great opportunity because you know and learn new things new cultures, traditions, share ideas, etc.

The points against Tck are: identity, because identity? because when you are traveling to a certain part you change your culture, you have to adapt to the new place where you are, in some cases it is very complicated because they are totally different things that are not easy to learn, and conflicts occur within one's personality and that may affect others

Regarding the difficult that it can be to learn a new culture is the challenge that comes to a person where that is something very good is a challenge for you and once you achieve it feels great.

In conclusion I think that TCK are neither good nor bad, I think they are both, it is good to learn from others as well as to be clear about what your home is.

From my ponit of view I don't consider that TCK's could be define like a corse because exist more advantages than disadvantages about that topic. So I think that one of them, is travel around the world and when come back from abroad those kids have a better understanding of the world, they achieve a global view and perspectives from different point of views because they live with different people who have different cultures, customs and traditions. They can exchange their knowledge with others. For that reason I have a testimony that support my opinion, she is Philippa Mathew spent 14 years travelling and her children enjoyed a privileged upbringing, also gave them a better understanding of the world. In the same way their education sets them up to be more flexible and better able to cope with change. But the most important is that those kids can be the change with the society that exist right now because they identify and compare social issues and international issues, in that way they can resolve it. Finally I strongly believe they are new generation who can change the world being open-minded (Jhoselyn Roselló)

Nincol. 1. I strongly believe that being part of the Third Culture Kids is not a curse, because, kids and their parents aren´t guilty of that situation. It´s necessary to have financial support and it´s part of their parents’ jobs. Well, if we talk about advantages and disadvantages of being part of the TCK´s, considering that they are kids, which are willing to different cultures, could generate identity problems, since they can´t be identified with only one culture, their identity is formed by a great variety of traditions customs and habits, which they acquire in the course of their trips, which modify the normal development of emotions and behaviors in kids. Also, this is closely related to adaptation, since not all places have the same customs and traditions. However, not everything is bad, being part of the TCK´s gives a wider vision of the world, because, children belonging to the TCK´s have special skills to compare global and local problems, in this way, they have a better understanding of the world, on the other hand, in the future these children can become diplomats, people who allow to establish links between different countries.

PAOLA GUTIERREZ: First at all, if we want to say that being a third culture kid is a curse or a blessing we should know what is being a third culture kid. So, third culture kids (TCKs) is a term used to refer to chilren raised in a culture other than their parents’, some of them because of their parents work abroad to live , or in some cases their lives are exposed to airstrikes like people in Sirya. In that way, they are not a phenomen given that according of a 2011 online survive by Denizen, found most of the 200 participants made their first move before the age of nine and had to lived in an average of 4 countries, so actually there are many TCKs who have to relocate everytime. Even though, they have some adaptation problems because of their mobile lifestyle and can not define their identity such as the case of Sahaj Kohli an Indian girl who lived in USA and had long discussions with her parents over that fact she can not find her identity, but at the end she could define herself as an American and Indian person. In that sense, cases like this show us that being a TCK have some disadvantages that at the end can be solve, what is important is that there are more advantages that allow me to consider it is a blessing. Some of benefits of being a TCKs are, they can enrich their knowledge through their personal experience with each culture such as they can speak many languages and communicate with people around the world. Likewise, they can be flexible to many places and learn about mannerisms and beliefs of people from each culture. More importantly, they are open-minded given that they hold different views of point thus they are more aware of global issues turning them into citizens of the world. Finally, being a TCK is a blessing because it permits to children and teenagers became in a responsible world citizen concerned about global issues.

This is a benefit to their future because these abilities are important to the employers and it can sure a workplace. However, the kids that traveled to other countries can have problems to decide about their future because they have an experience that makes the meaning of bad and good actions difficult to understand.

It is true that it has some disadvantages, as lack of a specific identity, but it brings more advantages as well.

First, a TCK belong to a different subculture coined by themselves. This gives them the opportunity to create a space where they feel comfortable in. Also, it makes them unique in society since they have lots of diverse values, norms, behaviours, beliefs, mannerisms and thoughts.

Furthermore, they have a deeper comprehension about global issues. This is because TCKs are nomads: they have lived in different countries and, for that reason, they have been influenced by several cultures. So, TCKs don’t have only one points of view: they have a multiplicity of opinions about a topic.

Finally, a TCK’s home is all around the world. Because home is where your heart is. Then, they have established lasting bonds with everything they knew during their traveling way. So, they got a home in every place they have lived in.

In my opinion being a TCK is not a curse or a blessing, because it has its advantages and disadvantages in the emotional field of children, because, being children of people who work constantly traveling turn them into children of multiple cultures, therefore, the advantages that are diverse, since, develop aspects of global vision developing different points of view with regard to cultures, causing children to become more flexible to face changes in their lifestyle. However, also being TCK carries disadvantages with respect to lack of roots that one obtains from a stable community or country, since the social instability is characteristic of a child of TCK, when they move as they grow through the painful process of moving away from Friendships accomplished to try to make new friends, so they do not maintain a healthy social life. According to Benjamin Self, a person belonging to TCK, says that cultural instability is a consequence of belonging to this lifestyle, because, when traveling is likely to know cultures and that adapts by leaving aside everyday customs to acquire others, Causing problems with respect to identity, because, because it is not stable it makes people isolated. Finally, Benjamin emphasizes, that maintains a constant restlessness, to establish a deep relation, summarizing in a single sentence "When more connected or interconnected we are, but we only feel", ie, "I would stay and I would love you, but I have to go, this E s my station, " This quotation shows that the connectivity with the world is weak, since to participate and to dedicate to local networks socializing for a long time is not characteristic of a person belonging to TCK.

Finally argument that being a TCK will depend on the emotional support it acquires in the process of permanent travel, so that it is considered that, in certain people the adaptation is favorable facilitating their future interactive life in relation to society, because, Having a global mindset will achieve assertive communication acquiring or modifying cultures or custom that allow it to be part of that environment. On the other hand, it is possible that people in the process of changing cultures do not identify themselves, resulting in emotional instability. No position is bad or good, it will all depend on the people involved.

Proficiency in multiple languages, intercultural sensitivity, expanded worldviews, open-mindedness and cultural empathy are among the frequently reported ones. TCKs enter adulthood armed with skills to handle change and to communicate across cultures. They are usually highly educated, with one survey showing that TCKs are four times more likely to have bachelor’s degrees compared to non-TCKs.

Also, they had early maturity because they had to affront different changes at a young age like separate from their friends that they made on each country, deal with stereotypes, etc. in that way are able to accept the reality of people and things as they are.

As far as I'm concerned people have tattoos given that they want to express their identity and interests. Besides if I have a tattoo some day is because I want to show my personality through it and I strongly believe that is part to my cultural tradition. On the other hand, I have to admit that the meaning of tattoos today is fully different from the past, althought doesn't meant that it has less importance. So people who have tattoos in some way demonstrate their cultural tradition. (Jhoselyn Roselló)

keith Inga From my point of view, having played with some toys in my childhood does not necessarily influence in my education and career choice that I will choose in the future. When I was a child I used to play with toys that were influenced by my context "dolls, barbies, etc. '' were common to be played. However, with the stage of maturation and development of my person, my choices and preferences changed, since they stopped being influential in my life, Therefore, to acquire a mature and open mindset through my educational training, the choice of career I will choose in the future will be regardless of the toy that I played in the past. Finally, I consider that this stereotype of that "playing with certain toys symbolized the career choice that you choose” It does not affect my future life, since, the stage of growth that I purchased, it will allow me to be aware of the decisions and choices that take is not influenced by childhood I had, Since, at this stage we are only guided by the environment that we have.

Furthermore, I have goals that I construct during time, that are independly to my toys because I know my strengths and weaknesses so my education and career choices it depends of that.

1) In my opinion, the language limited by culture because; when you belong to a culture it has its own language you get used to it, but when it comes time to interact with another culture you can not do it, since when interacting with other cultures they realize that it has another type of language and can not communicate with this culture. 2) Idiom is a group of words (it can be rethorical devices), and language is the way of express your opinion (it can be corporal language or other types of that). 3) In my personal opinion, yes it can change our opinion, because it always have to depends of the context for examples when you are in a country that speak english you think on inglish because you are learning this way of language. 4) The typical mistake are: the gramar, also mostly of the people first organizate the ideas and then translate this for english, and this are wrong because the order of trhe words in spanish or in english doesn't are the same

1. While it is true that each culture has its own language, which allows the development of culture as well as its evolution since, in fact, people are responsible for language, that is, they are the ones that decide whether a language remains or is excluded of society, because man is born in a society with a pattern established on the system of life, therefore, it is society that demilizes language.

2. We refer to language to any type of system that allows communication or expression through any form with other people, because through language we express ourselves while we speak of idiom when we refer to a language alteration whose concept is different from the real meaning of the words since it is only structured for a group of people and in some cases cultures.

3. From my point of view the language forms our way of thinking, because people tend to have an understanding on any subject through the mother tongue while if we were in any other country, we would change our perception on the same issues since we we find ourselves in front of another
type of thoughts that occurs because of language. 4. Well, many people have different problems when they learn English, for me, the grammatical structure is the main factor in which most people have problems, since a phrase in Spanish tends to be written upside down in English. A clear example of this is the questions, on the other hand people they have complications in the meaning of each word, because a word in Spanish can have other meanings in English. Finally, I think that people tend to get confused with the pronunciation of each word since some of them have a sound similar to Spanish but with peculiar characteristics.

1.The language is limited by culture, due to that culture is who imposes the meaning of the words , so the language need to adapted to this context to coexist in a society 2. I think "idiom" is is the way that you communicate with people of your environment, for example in Perú our idiom is the spanish. But "language" is more big, because this is the way that you express your thinks, knowledge, culture, etc of your culture 3.The language like the way to express something of your culture have the capacity to change or shape your thinking, for example in a cultural shock bouth cultures have differents thinks of some definition or object so this causes that some persons need to adapted to this bouth culture so have the necesity to learn about that kind of language to coexist in a society 4. In my opinion the main problem is the grammar because is some difficult know or recognize that specific letter that create a words and in some cases the memory is fragile, so you can forget some words Alondra <3

SHERYL SÁNCHEZ

1. For me, the two cases are possible. First, language is limited by culture because is our culture which gives us the specific aspects about language, the way we use it and how we use it. For example, as Spanish speakers we notice more grammatical gender words than English speakers do, and this kind of aspect determine the way we express our ideas and thoughts. But, I think also that culture is limited by language, since there are characteristic languages from different cultures that are disappearing nowadays, which doesn’t allow the preservation of these ones. For example, one of these languages is quechua, which isn’t being spoken too much.

2. According to Cambridge Dictionary, “idiom” is referred to the literary device that includes a group of words in a fixed order that have a particular meaning that is different from the meanings of each word on its own. Differently, “language” means a system of communication consisting of sounds, words, and grammar, or the system of communication used by people in a particular country or type of work. So, I consider that the idioms are part of the language of a specific culture.

3. I believe language shapes the way we think since the culture where we were born has a language which it’s rules are different from other ones. In this way, we create our ideas about what the world is and how it works. For example, for us as Spanish speakers there are some things that are labeled with feminine grammatical gender and other with masculine, while in English are just neutral. As the case of “the moon”, this is neutral for them, but for us is “la Luna”.

4. Our main difficulties is trying to find the correct word that means exactly what you want to say. There are some words that sound similar in both languages, but have different meaning. For example, “actually” sounds like “actualmente” but it really means “truly”. And when you choose the wrong word, there could be misunderstandings. Also the pronunciation is difficult because it determines what you’re trying to say. As an example, we commonly confuse the pronunciation of “since” with the one of “scientist”. These factors can complicate the communication between English and Spanish speakers and making us unable to express our ideas coherently.

1. It is when a language disappears and its speakers are extinguished, or when they cease to be used in a certain group 2. The reason why a language disappears is when its speakers are extinguished, or when we stop using it to express it in something else, it is often more widespread and is spoken by a preponderant group 3. Many times people with different languages are discriminated because they believe they can not fit into our society, that is why the natives of other cultures leave their mother tongue aside because of the fear of being discriminated against. 4. In my opinion, you must create positive linguistic attitudes in the societies towards these languages, promote projects of documentation of these languages and, above all, teach them in the schools. In this way the young people have more motivation when it comes to learning a new language

Besides, the government only treat Efdalian as a dialect and doesn’t recognize its importance as a language. 3) The main consequence of Elfdalian becoming extinct is that cultural heritage of the Viking culture will disappear, because there are important things which can only manifest in that language for example songs, oral traditions and myths.

4) I consider what government can do to save languages is given them the recognition that they deserve. For example, it can impart education respecting the native languages of the students, so they can receive education in their native tongue and at the same time continue using it, which will lead to the preservation of those languages in extinction.

1. I think that it means, when a language loses its last native speaker, and also this happens when the language is not already known, even by a second language speakers, for example, Icelandic, is a idiom that is slowly dying due to digital technology and social media. 2. The principal reazon for the Icelandic language is disappearing, is because people stop talking, and also is because that language, over time has been replaced by another language. According to the U.N., most languages are spoken by very few people. About 97 % of the world's population speaks just 4% of its languages, while 3 percent speaks 96 percent of them.
3. The consequence of a language becoming extinct, is that people will lose their unique, cultural knowledge unrecoverable historical and ecological.
4. I consider the best solution to save languages is fostering linguistic diversity at all levels of education whenever possible, and favoring the learning of several languages from early childhood

Miss Nina these answers are from the prior questions 1. I consider that is language limited by culture because if you born with a specific culture incunconsciously you are accepting that culture, their traditions, customs, and language. In fact, you are accepting the way they communicate to others. In that sense, the way you express your ideas are going to be connect to your culture. 2. First of all, idiom is a rethorical device, a sentence or phrase that you can't take it literally, it most figurative. And language, is the way people use to speak, write, express ideas to others. 3. The language shape the way we think because when you belong a culture, you are accepting their way to express ideas, music, customs and traditions, moreove the way they behave. So I'm spanish speaker and I strongly believe that say adjective after a noun is correct but for a english speaker is wrong because they strongly believe that say adjective before a noun is right. That's why people have different ways to think because they belong to different cultures. 4. One of the common difficulties to learn english is the grammar structure because in "spanish" you have to put an adjective after a noun but in "english" you must put an adjective before a noun. That's the problem. Second, some people don't use the correct intonation and pronunciation in some phrases. Third, some speakers think in spanish, then translate it, and finally they say it; that way to learn english is going to confuse the right way to learn it.

Elfdalian language is in danger of extinction because there are less people who speak it. Besides, in their community that is located in a remote part of Sweden is recently locals have taken to using more modern Swedish instead. Even, statistics shows that fewer than 2,500 people speak Elfdalian, and less than 60 children under the age of 15 are fluent in it. 3.

The Quechua:
1.-According to David Harrison, the smaller the number of speakers, the more difficult it is to obtain an exact count ", with which you can say that the death of a language occurs when people let it speak.

2.- According to the La Red 21´s New, say that the quechua disappears because of the shame of the indigenous people to use it. Also, the Quechua speaker is ashamed and believes that it is better to speak Spanish, becuase Spanish is the language of the cults and who does not speak it well is marginalized and excluded. The summary that best seems to define what is happening more every day is that "Quechua has gone back from the street to the house and now, from the house to the kitchen"(idiom).

3.-I think the main consequence of quechua being extinguished is that first, we would lose part of our cultural heritage, because language is considered part of our culture. In addition, we would lose the opportunity to know the native cultures of Peru, because the words in Quecha that have no meaning in another language, which would hinder the learning of each of these native cultures.

4.- Nowadays, linguists are struggling to document and archive the diversity of languages that are rapidly disappearing. Their efforts include making dictionaries, recording histories and traditions, and translating oral histories. I strongly believe that beauty is something subjective because it depends on each person, everyone creates his/her own conception about what is beauty. For example, people can't judge the beauty of the avant-garde's work of arts because for some people they can be very beautiful and meaningful but for others they can be incoherent and senseless. For that reason we can't judge it and say that something is beautiful or not because beauty depends on each person.

Personally I agree with this proverb because the meaning of beauty really is in the beholder's perspective. We have, for example, the symbols of beauty status over time, while in China it is considered beautiful for women to use bandages on their feet, in some parts of Asia beautiful women were considered to have long hair. On the other hand, nowadays due to the progress of the sciences, I consider that beauty is now mostly related to proportion or symmetry. For these reasons I conclude that the meaning of beauty really is in the beholder's perspective and this will be based on the personal knowledge of this which in turn is influenced by their culture.

However an apart of that, I consider that talk about beauty and mencion that we born in the eyes in incorrect, because real beauty born in our self, inside, becuse this factor build the person that we reflect outside.

We have several ideas about what beauty means. I consider that it depends on the image that our own culture builds about beauty, and we take it as an irrefutable idea. For example, American people think that a woman is beautiful if she is tall, blond and skinny. In contrast, Latin-American people’s concept if a beautiful woman is referred to the one who has a “wasp waist” and big body measures. So, the way beauty is seen by others depends on the ideals they have about it.

Many times we think that "beaty" people are good or the best, but in many cases is false or criticize people as "ugly" because they don´t look good before society, since society has an wrong image of the person which makes it clear how it looks but not how it is . It also depends a lot on the self-esteem of the person because if you accept yourself as you are it doesn´t matter what others say or think about you. At the same time, this statement can generate controversy, especially in young people, since, according to psychological studies, they are the people who suffer the most as it can bring many consequences such as suffering illness from eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia or manorexia. In turn, I consider that these types of phrases are used as a marketing strategy for companies that are responsible for making cosmetics or beauty contests, to get people's attention, but do not realize the damage they can cause as those mentioned above. I believe that the phrase generates prejudices based on the fact that people are "beautiful" depending on how they look and not on how they really are based on their personality and the characteristics they possess.
