Some important structures that aid in diffusion are:<br>1) <strong>Protonephridia</strong> - networks of fine tubules that run the length of the planarian along its side.<br>2) <strong>Flame cells</strong> - fine side branches of the tubules that originate in the parenchyma as tiny enlargements<br>3) <strong>Nephridiopore</strong> - small pores/openings on the outside of a planarian's body that merge with the tubules.</div>]]></description>

Despite being monoeicious and capable of self-fertilization, many planarians still cross-fertilize to create more genetic diversity. During cross-fertilization, the penis of both planarians insert into the other and secrete sperm. Fertilization occurs in the ovaries, after passing through the genital chamber and oviducts. Fertilized eggs are kept in <strong>cocoons</strong> to protect them from the elements.</div>]]></description>
