Shay's rebellion is a topic still taught hundreds of years later. What did this historical event look like to an eyewitness? http://shaysrebellion.stcc.edu/shaysapp/person.do?shortName=agrippa_wells

What were his thoughts concerning Shays’ Rebellion?

Although Agrippa welcomed peace after the Revolutionary War, he understood what Daniel Shays and the other Regulators were fighting for. He had seen the effects of the post war recession and the imposed taxes. Also, many of the people that supported the cause were well known to him, some even fellow veterans. He eventually joined the fight.

When the ranks of the inexperienced men behind his veterans broke and fled, Agrippa refused to join them. When his own men gave up and ran, he stood alone, cursing their cowardice.

http://shaysrebellion.stcc.edu/shaysapp/person.do?shortName=agrippa_wells

He also served in the Revolutionary War, experienced Native American raids and captures, among other things. It is obvious that Wells was very familiar with violence and rebellion.

fatal flaw:

I would say that Captain Grip's distinctive flaw was his pride. Even after the rebellion was over, he refused to sign the government document to obtain a pardon. He even turned in his gun, but did not sign the paper. Although at times this was an admirable quality, it could also hurt him.

What burdens did he carry?

As was mentioned briefly, Agrippa Wells had seen conflict from a very young age. Native American raids during his childhood, the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War and even being captured by Native Americans at one point. These were not the only horrible things he saw during his life, he also lost a 7 year old daughter and an infant. I can imagine how worried he was as a family man.
