Three Good Ways to Use Padlet In Your Classroom

1. Using Padlet as a Know, Wonder & Learned chart:
Padlet can be used to create a KWL chart that students can contribute to anonymously or not anonymously if you want them to sign-in. Create a wall, make it public, and ask students to share what they know and what they want to know about a topic. If you allow anonymous posting you might get contributions from shy students who might not otherwise speak-up in class. Of course, if you allow anonymous commenting you should have a conversation with your students about what an appropriate comment looks like. You could also turn on moderation and approve all notes before they appear. Padlet works well when projected on an interactive whiteboard.
2. Using Padlet for group research:
Show a video on a particular topic and carryout a class discussion on what they saw. Then get the students to search online for other examples on the topic. When they find examples get them to put them onto a “Wall Wisher Wall” that you projected onto a wall in your classroom. The wall would started with just text being added and quickly would progressed to pictures and YouTube videos being added to the wall. Once every student had added a video to the wall you could stop, watch and discussed them.

3. Using Padlet as a showcase of your students’ work:
If your students are creating digital portfolios, creating slideshows, or producing videos you could use Padlet to display all of your students’ best work on one page. Create the wall, call it something like “my best work this year,” and have your students post links to their works.

Systems Engineering - School Assessed Task - Student Portfolio
This is one of my current students folio work being developed as an ongoing process.
https://padlet.com/2351935/e02kygmi9lc3

Past Student's Project Presentation
I was able to upload a video I made of one of my past student's project.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdJWZPHYAvQ

Past Student's completed Portfolio
I uploaded a folio work as a reference for my students follow when they produce their own.
https://padlet.com/wisb/qyre8qiraik4

https://padlet.com/wisb/qyre8qiraik4/wish/96871654

Purpose of online documentation
In VET Music and Technical Production, students need to document planning and development of key concepts. This development forms part of assessment. Over the past 3 years, this aspect of my program has grown to include YouTube videos, a picture journal, "exam" documentation, evaluation questions and S.W.O.T analysis. Having this as something that could be continuously added to, commented on and collaborative was the next step.

Why Padlet?

Easy & Free

App

Allows multiple media types

Setting it up in my classroom
I made the choice to get each student to make their own online platform. They then shared this with me, giving me the power to write or administer.

VCE VET Music
Throughout the year, students develop 3 performances and an exam based on an area/concept or genre of their choosing. This means that each students has their own research.
We have one class a week dedicated to performance development and work is done or stored on the padlet in this. This is checked once a week during "rehearsal" periods.
Areas we have spoken about include:

Costume design

Artists in the style who inspired them

Choreography

Stage movement

S.W.O.T analysis of work

performance videos

Practice Industry Statements

Song ideas and suggestions (from both students and myself)

Maddison Gallagher - https://padlet.com/22maddison/3ivnt4t37bli
Justin Carreon - https://padlet.com/justin_33/xck6gbrryez9

VCE VET Technical Production
Students get the opportunity throughout the year to create their own demo recordings. Being industry-based learning, this needs to be more thought-out then just plugging in the microphone and recording.
Students need to identify sounds, effects and techniques in recordings and find ways to apply this to their planning.
This was largely self-paced towards the end of term 1 due to a number of classes I was absent - this has turned itself into part of the assessment.

Liam Brazil - https://padlet.com/liamtbrazil/fo16e5nic1hl

Moving forward

Finding a way to make this even more collaborative

Finding a way to better manage these

Find a definite layout that works better
