         <description><![CDATA[<div>Meteorologists have many ways of predicting hurricanes. They can use planes to fly above, into, and around the hurricane. They can also use satellites to track the&nbsp; temperature of the oceans' surfaces. Weather radars are also used to read precipitation intensity and movement and a variety of wind data. Buoys and floats can provide information about the water's surface and below such as air and water temperature, wave height, and wind direction and speed. Finally, they use computer models to track and predict the movement and behavior of the storm.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Meteorologists predict tornadoes buy using a computer forecast model. These can determine whether or not the conditions are right for a tornado if it follows certain set rules. However, if the weather breaks the set rules then meteorologists can use ensemble forecasting. This will run several models at once to determine if there will be a tornado.          <title>Hurricanes are named after people because it helps people remember the hurricane. The names of the hurricane also help people communicate.  A tropical storm develops into a hurricane when wind speeds reach 74 miles per hour thats when it gets its name.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tornadoes are uncommon in New Jersey because of the land. In New Jersey there is no stretch of land big enough for a tornadoes to form. The few tornadoes that have ever been in New Jersey formed from other storms. The other storm started the tornado and then it just did the damage. The weather can also affect tornadoes and the weather just doesn't occur in New Jersey.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Scientists predict tornadoes with satellite storm spotting. Areas where tornadoes form and where storms are occurring is where they watch for a starting tornado. The conditions for a tornado typically last four to six hours and can form anywhere in between there. These predictions are not very long in advance like hurricanes but tornadoes form randomly at any moment during a storm.          <description><![CDATA[<div>tornado are uncommon in New Jersey because you need warm air mixed with cold air and in NJ we have a lot of cold and not much warm threw the seasons.When the air meets they spiral to form a tornado also you have to have nearly equal levels of cold and warm air. Hurricanes used to be named from the latitude and longitude of the storm’s position. The World Meteorological Organization tried to use actual names because "naming storms made it easier for the media to report." In turn, the decision to name hurricanes has heightened interest in warnings and increased community preparation ahead of the storms. Tornadoes aren’t named because they only last so long.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Hurricane predictions can fall into two categories: seasonal probabilities and the track of a current hurricane.&nbsp; Every year, the meteorologist on the news starts talking about how many named storms are predicted for the season and how many hurricanes are expected to make landfall. Scientists can also predict the number of named storms and their breakdown by the intensity (the number of hurricanes, tropical storms, intense hurricanes, etc.).&nbsp; They can predict the approximate wind speeds and intensity for sustained winds. These can be calculated using elementary statistics. In the past, there were situations where people were put into more danger because false information was spread about the wrong hurricane. This was a way to make it easier for the media to report, and easier for the public to understand. Tornadoes happen with only some time for a warning, so there isn't much time to name them. There are so many more tornadoes than hurricanes in a year, that naming them seemed confusing.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In tornado alley, tornadoes are very common mainly because of the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountains.&nbsp; These two things together create the perfect conditions for a severe tornado: the Gulf of Mexico produces warm, moist air at low levels and the Rocky Mountains produce cool, dry air higher up.&nbsp; When these two different temperatures of air meet and the wind blows, it creates a strong twister known a a tornado. &nbsp;<br>That is why the area known as tornado alley experiences so many tornadoes; because those states are very close to and many of them even share a border with the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountains.     Since the state of New Jersey is much farther away from the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountains, we are not in the direct path of the air when it meets and we do not get as many tornadoes. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>About 13 hurricanes occur around the world each year.  Sometimes more, sometimes less; it depends on the year.  Hurricanes form tornadoes because they bring warm, moist air with them, which acts as their fuel and this causes an instability in the atmosphere.  When this warm, moist air is met with cooler, more dry air, the warm air wants to rise and the cool air wants to fall.  But, because of the winds from the hurricane, the warm air rising creates an upwards vortex of strong winds, which is a tornado.  </div>]]></description>

Tornadoes that do occur in the winter are especially dangerous because they mostly from in the dark, which results in less warning time. Also, people usually don’t prepare for tornadoes during the offseason, so tornadoes in the winter can cause a lot of trouble. There have only been four recorded tornado events in Alaska since 1950. You can see that tornadoes are very rare in cold places like Alaska. They use data from weather balloons, satellites, aircraft, etc. Meteorologists also use supercomputers to compare multiple computer models. This allows them to come to a conclusion about what will happen. Hurricanes are named after people because it was confusing to people trying to track information on hurricanes. By gathering info this tells us how strong a hurricane can be and when it will happen. Once the find a sign they alert us.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Hurricanes are named after people so that it is easier to talk about them and is less confusing. Giving them these names makes it easier to communicate to other people about them. In addition, tornadoes are not given names. This is because there are way too many tornadoes each year in the U.S. to name every one of them. Also, tornadoes only last for a short amount of time, between 15-20 min. By the time they name it, the tornado will already be over. Names are usually only given to long lasting storms.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Tornadoes in the winter are very rare, but not impossible. These winter tornadoes are sometimes more deadly than normal tornadoes because they move faster. In addition, tornadoes in Alaska are uncommon and very rare. There has only been about 1 tornado there, which did not kill or injure anyone. They are very rare because tornadoes usually form when warm, moist are combine with cool air, and Alaska is almost always cold.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Hurricanes are named after people because it makes life easier for the news reporter leaking out information for that storm. It wasn’t always named after people it used to be named after the coordinates of where the storm happened. The World Meteorological Organization decided to use actual names also for the reason being that it has heightened more interest in preparing for the storm. I guess this leads to why tornadoes do not get named after people because scientists or news reporters might not have thought of it. It would probably be a good idea to do this though because then more people would be prepared like when a hurricane is about to strike.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tornadoes aren't uncommon in New Jersey, it is just not as common here as it is in the middle part of the U.S. New Jersey actually sees about two twisters a year that can take huge away objects and reach wind gusts of about 74 miles per hour or more. These tornadoes are most common to hit New Jersey, or states close to us, in the months of June and July which is in the summer. The reason for this is that tornadoes form when cold dry air and warm moist air come together which will most likely happen during that time of the year. Like mentioned before, just because it doesn’t seem like it occurs often, it can still come strike us.</div><div><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
