World War II was a conflict between  many countries who held alliances. Those alliances pitted against each other. The leading "Axis Powers" were Nazi Germany, Kingdom of Italy, and the Empire of Japan. The other side (the "Big Four") consisted of the United Kingdom, United states,  Soviet Union and China.
