Collaboration

No single person can have a larger effect or lead in a change/shift than a group of individuals who have a shared desire to see their vision fulfilled. As a response, I feel it is vital for everyone who wants to make a substantial effect to locate a group of others who are equally motivated. I found that the efforts and trust created via teamwork shone greater in times of struggle or when we faced a problem. It reminded me of the article we read at the beginning of the semester that spoke on trust and vulnerability, and how trust is so integral to the collaboration of the group. With more trust comes more vulnerability, and being able to trust each other allowed us to be more vulnerable, even if it was speaking up about frustrations the group may be facing.

Influences

In my first personal statement earlier this semester, I stated my influences "serves as a jumping off point" in my creative process. And after going through the different modules, I say that my influences were definitely something that I used as a road map for the not only the beginning of my process, but also how I wanted the final product of it to look as well. I found that this really came to fruition in the dance section. In one of the first dancing assignments when we had to come with a short dance sequence, as a non-dancer, I had no real idea what to do. But I remember thinking of some of my favorite music videos as a kid, and just copied a move. It's crazy how our influences can stay with us for so long, and appear in space you'd never expect to see it in. I saw this in many other dances as well, as some people used life experiences or already popular dances to influence their dance. It felt like many people called on their influences as sort of the first step in their creative process, and that was comforting and really cool to be able to witness.

Inspirations

One thing that I noticed when working in groups, no matter the section, was that we all brought ideas we gathered from our inspirations and built off that. For example, in the final project for this course, we drew a lot of inspiration from Christopher Nolan's 2017 film "Dunkirk", from the manipulation of time to the orchestral score that coats the length of the film. It's very fun incorporating all of your inspirations in your work because I've noticed it serves as an invitation inside the creative world of your partner. Also, it's even more exciting being able to combine the ideas of our inspirations with our own ideas and create a beautiful work that wouldn't be what it is without the inspiration. I've found it really isn't about reinventing the wheel, it's just making different versions of the ones that already exist.
