Loving the new template so far! One question- Will this Lesson Plan be taking the place of the lesson plans GE teachers have to create every month for our grade level teams?
Or something extra?
Thanks! :)

You all are talking about chunking lessons and just said the closing could just be 10-15 minutes-- with the new ALEKS requirement for students to work on their own for 20 miniutes each class we have 35 minutes TOTAL to welcome, introduce, teach, practice, etc. I do not know how all of these sections can be done well in only 35 minutes. (especially when some dont log in until 5-10 min after class starts)

We will need some direction on how this will work with GE teachers getting direction from GE teams during PLCs on the lessons. This will be quite different from how lessons are currently designed. I'll put this in the padlet too. It'd be nice if GE was designing lessons this way as well so it could be consistent across the board and we won't have to do our own thing in the co-teaching classes and be an island basically.

We're not going to be able to keep up with pacing.

Our IP has us teaching a new topic almost every day (there are a few topics that get more than one day) and sometimes two topics on block day. We can get ahead or behind by a day or two, but with the number of priority standards we can only get so far behind before they miss other topics compeletly. Broken down we have about 30 minutes for each topic (warm up to review previous topic about 5 minutes and then last 20 minutes SPED kids are gone for ALEKS), Introducing a new topic to students who are 2 or more grade levels below is difficult, but teaching it in 10-15 minutes so that they can then have a 10-15 min wrap up feels unrealistic. I use formative assessments on a daily basis, but with our IP we have to move on in order to stay on pace. CHAMP time and WIN helps alot (but I don't have SPED kids during CHAMP and usually they are with their SPED teacher during WIN session on Friday. I think all of the ideas you all are going over is wonderful, I just dont see how it will work with our pacing requirements.

However, due to conflicting schedules of SPED and Gen Ed teachers as well as added responsibilities placed on SPED teachers, it is challenging to find time to collaborate. What is one thing the SPED department can take off of our SPED teachers' plates to help them build in more time to collaborate with their Gen Ed teachers?

Have any of the presenters ever taught at GCA? There is no way there is enough time in the day to do all this. I would LOVE to have more time with my co-teacher, but she has 5 periods to teach and 3 teachers. Plus IEPs and all the other tasks. It's frustrating that you think this is realistic.

As an admin you should be advocating that teachers take care of themselves and find work/life balance. You should NOT being telling teachers to block off extra time outside of work hours. If you are telling us to do that then you know we can't do all the work in each day. Which says more people need to be brought in to help.

Keep what is best for students in mind

We are not skill building in SS. We are presenting and reinforcing historical events that students need to be able to memorize and recall to be successful. That means repetition, participation, engagement, discussion, using study guides, videos, songs, graphic organizers, polling, guided notes, module resources, lesson checklist, etc.... to help them learn. With 2 days of 45 minutes weekly to teach the huge amount of SS standards, is already a challenge. Our students read on the mic and webcam, use the chat, poll and discuss learning targets daily. We also use TOTD to close and measure student learning after each lesson. I agree with Dan that the new model would be feasible without these time constraints and the fact that we are dealing with completely new content, not skill building like in Math or ELA for example. I am not trying to be negative, I just want to do what is best for our students.
Janet Vaughan
