That being said,   I'd estimate that a large handful are below reading level (scientifically speaking).

At the high school level, we don't assess the reading level of students, so it is a little hard to assign a grade level to their reading levels.

Many of my Spanish 2 students are native/heritage speakers so they read at a higher reading level. We spend a lot of time reading in Workshop to practice pronunciation, so that is how I can tell they are able to read at a higher level.

We give i-Ready to all students grades 2 and up 2-3 times a year. This adaptive test gives specific feedback on gaps in understanding and reading levels.
