He has doubts, but throughout the book he says that math camp wouldn't be fun, for example in these quotes:
"And they couldn’t send him somewhere fun, somewhere with sailboats and Jet Skis and rock climbing. No, they were sending him to math camp." He also says he already has plans, and that shows he doesn't want to go.
