What took place in 1962 was the Cuban Missile Crisis and the two major global super powers in the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union, were face-to-face in a nuclear battle. Kennedy made the call to not invade Cuba despite his military advisors urging him to do so. In the White House during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy knew the consequences of a U.S. led invasion into Cuba to dismantle the missile sites. An invasion into Cuba had the potential of triggering a nuclear strike on the US and in return the U.S would obliterate the Soviet Union killing thousands upon thousands.

Also, Kennedy chose a naval blockade instead of an invasion. He was right to not to invade Cuba because the Russian commanders in Cuba at the time had the power to use nuclear weapons if the US invaded. If they would have used nukes then the US would have used them to retaliate and it would have just gotten worse from there. This teaches us that in the midst of a problem, we should stay calm and think through things clearly. If not, we will say or do something we'd regret. Having a cool head will prevent any more problems to arise and will let you solve things before they escalate to a place you won't be able to come back from.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a scary time during history. Just imagine, one touch of a button and everything you knew was wiped from existence. During this time, planning and thinking ahead was crucial. Because 1 wrong move and the world would’ve quite literally ended.
The way Kennedy and the Russian soldier handled this situation with a calm mind was the best thing they could’ve done. Kennedy professionally talking things through with the Russian diplomat calmed everything down and ended the missile crisis. While the Russian soldier who chose not to launch the missiles is the real hero in this story. He kept his cool and thought things out. He didn’t jump and conclusions and think in the moment. He thought about the future and what launching a nuclear missile could’ve done to the world. With these two cool headed men, the world was able to avoid war and annihilation.

Everything during this time was essential for the people, it was completely necessary for those in charge, which in this case was Kennedy and the Russian soldiers to keep calm, think ahead, positive, think about their people, and stay confident. Without any of those, it would drive the people crazy as one mistake and everything could have just been gone. As if nothing never existed, as if there was never a world. During the Cuban Missile Crisis two people who had major power were going to begin what is called the Cold war, which was the United States and the Soviet Union.

Before any actions were actually taken place Kennedy, as the face of the United States, spoke to the Russian Diplomat and talked him down from him launching anything. Which resulted in the Cold war never beginning and ending the missile crisis. The Russian Diplomat chose not to launch the missiles after he spoke to Kennedy. From both parts, they were both very professional as they thought about the future, their people, and everything the cold war would cause. Going through with the Cold war would have just caused thousands of problems to the states and the people living there. It was not necessary.

Edlun Gault: During the brief time in the era of the cold war or generally the 1960's the U.S. and the Soviet Union never really got along. The Cuban Missile Crisis was just another problem given to both parties at the time. Generally after "cooler heads prevailed" due to the account that nobody from either party wanted to face another Nuclear Winter or Holocaust or face what happened with Hiroshima back in August 6th, 1945 with the "Little Boy" detonating and killing millions of Japanese citizens back in World War 2 in the Pacific, decisions needed to be made.

Obviously, from the fear of this happening a decisive diplomatic decision needed to be made. Should Cuba keep it's missiles for "Defensive" purposes? or should the U.S. interrogate and possibly start another war. If, it weren't for the U.S. making a diplomatic decision towards the Soviet Union unfortunately, both parties would've been at risk for a nuclear disaster aka a "Chernobyl".

During the time of the cold war the United states and the soviets did not get along . The key to not get into a nuclear battle was keeping a cool head. In the end the cooler heads did prevail.
Kennedy was able to professionally talk to a Russian diplomat and calming the situation . If it was not for them talking things out it could have meant another Hiroshima. The decision really came down to a single man, a person who at a push of a button can take the lives of not one person but millions. The Russian soldier that thought things out and decided not to act in such a way was able to save the lives of millions and avoid disaster.

It was scary because they were being threaten to die just in a single touch of a button. That one touch can kill everyone and everything, just imagine living in a world were you you can die whenever they want you to. One bad move can end your life.

Kennedy finally ended this terrible situation with the Russian soldier. Kennedy calmly talked to the soldier and stated he wanted to end this before someone gets hurt more then they are already hurt. This was the best thing Kennedy did because no one got hurt ending it this way because he knew it was going to become a disaster if they did have some sort of war. Kennedy thought about the future of his country and made it work by keeping everyone safe.

The Russians had missiles in Cuba which were too close to the U.S which could have started WW3. Cooler heads prevailed due to the fact that neither side wanted to engage in a nuclear war that could kill millions. With both diplomats calm and collected, they met up in secret to come to a compromise.

With this compromise, they didn't engage in a nuclear war which prevented more problems to arise.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was the first major showdown of the cold war. While the Bay of Pigs Invasion was a major issue, it was more of a complete failure, not an international suspense but it does play a major role in the missile crisis.

After the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, President Kennedy came away looking weak and defeated. We had just failed in training Cubans to overthrow Fidel Castro, and if we couldn’t succeed there, we had no hope against the Russians. But, in the Cuban Missile Crisis, it was President Kennedy’s extreme calm under pressure that allowed his popularity and power to skyrocket. He was willing to take a risk, and threaten to invade Cuba if the missiles were not removed. In reality, he had no way of knowing if the USSR would back down after that proclamation, but he took that chance. For America to be able to stand up to that and basically tell them what move to make was huge. Also, I think this served as a rallying point for Americans to show in a time of crisis, we stick together, and our pride. Even in this dark moment, a light of hope could still shine, because we had made one step towards victory in the cold war, just simply by standing strong and being calm.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most scariest and dangerous events, that took place in 1962 between United Stated and the Soviets during the cold war. It involved nuclear weapons that could ended the world in just a few minutes. The fact that with just pressing one button you could destroy the whole world makes it more scary.

Kennedy and the Russian soldier
were the salvation in this whole story. Honestly, what they did was the best thing, they didn't look that they were enemies, on the contrary, both were looking for solutions were no one could get harmed. What they did was amazing, they thought in a cold way, putting the safety of the people first.

In conclusion, it was a very hard time, not only for the politicians, but with all the countries involved and the world. That's why we need to start thinking with a cold mind, we need to start looking for solutions that will hep everybody, not just us. And we should do what Kennedy and the Russian soldier did when it comes to solve problems, talk with the person in a good way and solve the problems like adult people.

Although he said this, on October 22 he then commanded the U.S. Navy to intercept all Soviet shipment to Cuba. This, of course, led to more tension with the soviets. It was about a week of confrontation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Both sides demanding that the other stand down. Finally both sides decided to go into a truce after weeks of suspense and tension. This was the greatest possible thing that could have happened in history because had either side commenced the war, millions would have died.

In 1962, the Cuban Missile crisis took place between the two major super powers during the 60's the United States and the Soviet Union. The whole crisis involved nuclear weapons which both sides could have used to hurt each other and possibly end the world. With both Countries prepared with nuclear missiles, it became a standoff. Kennedy made the call to not invade Cuba despite his military advisers urging him to do so. On October 22 he then commanded the U.S.

The Cuban Missile crisis was between the United states and the soviets during the cold war. The Russians had missiles in Cuba which were too close to the U.S which could have started WW3. Kennedy made a wise decision back then. We don't know that if Kennedy had attacked Cuba it would have solved the crisis. He could've taken out the missiles, or he could've failed, and we wouldn't be here to argue about if it was the right decision or not. The way Kennedy and the Russian soldier handled this situation with a calm mind was the best thing they could’ve done. Kennedy finally ended this terrible situation with the Russian soldier. Kennedy calmly talked to the soldier and stated he wanted to end this before someone gets hurt more then they are already hurt. This was the best thing Kennedy did because no one got hurt ending it this way because he knew it was going to become a disaster if they did have started a war.

What they did was amazing, they thought in a cold way, putting the safety of the people first.
the countries involved and the world.

The Cuban Missile crisis which took place in 1962 involved the US and the USSR in the time when they could have used nuclear weapons to bring upon destruction and can have the ability to destroy mankind. The decision of President John F Kennedy left many people scared for their lives and made it clear that the US was prepared to use nuclear weapons as means of protecting national security. It was a tense, 13-day political and military standoff in Cuba, which was 90 miles of US soil. Having nuclear weapons becoming operational was the biggest fear of the US, especially when these weapons were in Cuba, which means that if fired, the US would not exist and would have an affect on the world. Weighing the options, the president at the time made all Americans be aware about the presence of these military weapons and explain his decision to enact the blockade. The events at sea indicated that war could be averted, they did nothing to address the issue of the missiles that were already in place in Cuba. Despite tensions on both sides, Soviets and Americans both reached an agreement and offered to remove the nuclear missiles in Cuba for exchange that the US do not invade Cuba. Kennedy agreed to their terms and also secretly agreed to remove missiles that were in Turkey.

President John F Kennedy could not have handle the Cuban Missile crisis any better because when someone is under pressure he or she could start something big that they could not handle. President John F Kennedy could have been easily convinced to start a nuclear war by his people but instead he kept his cool and reached an agreement. Just like the video explains that in a split second decision either of the two commanders could have easily started a nuclear war. A worse decision could have been made which would caused a World War III. If a nuclear war had started there would be no mankind and I would have not typed this right now. The Cuban Missile crisis was a 13 day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union concerning American ballistic missile deployment in Italy and Turkey with consequent Soviet ballistic missile deployment in Cuba. The United States and The Soviet Union both agreed that they would never invade Cuba without direct provocation. The Cuban Missile crisis was the closest the Cold War came to escalating into a nuclear war.

During the Cuban Missile crisis of 1962 showed many times through out that “cooler heads prevail”. For instance, when the missiles were moved to Cuba by the U.S.S.R. the fact that Kennedy decided that it would be best to not go straight to invading Cuba wouldn’t be a good idea I an example of him having a cool head. This is because if he would have decided to invade it would’ve gotten the Soviet Union mad causing tensions to rise eventually leading to a full blown war. Kennedy again his ability to handle a high stress situation was when he announced the interception of U.S. Navy ships for all shipment to Cuba and Khrushchev wrote a letter saying that what they did was an act of aggression pretty much threatening the U.S. Kennedy held a secret meeting which helped prevent the outbreak of a nuclear war.

Another example of this was when the general in the submarine decided against shooting the nuclear missile. If he would’ve decided against that, the miscommunication would’ve been what started the war before it even could’ve been avoided. An even better example is how both government didn’t fall under the outrage of the people and go against what they decided the fact that they brushed off the anger of the people is just another example of how the cooler heads prevail because in the end the ones that are being praised for their diplomacy are both of them. Many events during the Cuban Missile Crisis prove that “cooler heads prevail” but the main example is how everyone didn’t make any abrupt decisions without fully analyzing the situation. Both the United States and the Soviet union had Nuclear weapons to fight each other and that would've only caused harm to everyone. So instead of moving forward with launching missiles which could've potentially caused a 3rd World War, they decided to settle the dispute by agreeing to each others conditions. It goes to show that it is imperative for nations to diplomatically solve crises instead of using other forces.

The Cuban Missile Crisis took place in 1962. The U.S. and the Soviet Union were two countries with nuclear weapons at war with each other. In 1961 the U.S. tried to over throw Cuba’s new communist government but failed, this event is known as the “Bay of Pigs’, Cuba was then convinced they needed help from the Soviets. The Soviets agreed, they then sent Cuba nuclear missiles secretly. The USSR did this so it can counter the U.S. nuclear missiles in Italy and Turkey. The USSR stated they were just being defensive.

On October 22nd, 1962 a U.S. spy plane was shot done by a USSR missile, the same day a USSR submarine was hit by a depth charge from a U.S. Navy vessel trying to signal it to go up. Then the commanders on the sub thought war begun, so three commanders had to make a unanimous decision to launch it, two out of the three officers agreed. The one officer that didn’t agree was Vasili Arkhipov. If it wasn’t for him a nuclear war would have begun, in this case he was the “cooler head” of the three Soviet officers. He was the calmest of them. He was the officer that had the courage to say no.

Hence governments in Washington had never hesitated to intervene to protect American interests.
The problem was that Castro could never tackle desperate problems of poverty, ill-health and illiteracy without harming US interests. Indeed to Castro, and to a large proportion of the Cuban people, American domination was a root cause of Cuba’s problems, and it must be ended. Castro in fact articulated a widespread revulsion against this humiliating position. The United States was deeply detested on the island.

In the letter Kennedy proposed that if the USSR removed it’s missiles from Cuba then the United States would end the quarantine measures and publicly acknowledge that it would not invade Cuba. At the end of the letter Kennedy wrote that the continuation of the Cuban Crisis would lead to a risk to the peace of the world. The missiles in Cuba allowed the Soviet to target the majority of the United States. The crisis was unique in many ways since it had so many miscalculations with direct and indirect communications with both countries.

“Cooler heads prevailed” is cited the most to describe how nuclear annihilation was avoided completely.

During the time of the cold war a terrifying even took place. In the 1960's the Cuban Missile Crisis took place. This horrific event involved enough nuclear weapons to destroy the whole world. First involving the U.S. and Soviet Union, and then Cuba also became involved. President John F. Kennedy wanted to prevent a WWIII from occurring.
After making a wrong move the U.S. was placed in an uneasy and scary position when Cuba teamed up with the Soviet Union with the intent to destroy the U.S. by launching nuclear weapons at the United States. While the Soviet Union and Cuba were very close to destroying the whole entire U.S.A. "cooler heads prevailed", through all of the anger Robert Kennedy met with Anatoly Dobrynin. They came to the conclusion that the U.S. must remove their nuclear weapons from Turkey and Italy and promise to never invade Cuba while the Soviet Union must remove their ties with Cuba under UN inspection. The crisis was over with a simple (figuratively speaking) discussion that turned into a solution. The point being that "cooler heads prevailed" because rather than fighting it out they had a discussion that ended things without creating a bigger problem.

A nuclear battle between two powerful nations, The United States and the Soviet Union that took place in 1962. It's known as the Cuban Missile Crisis and it took place on an Era where both sides could hurt each other by using nuclear weapons. Thankfully, due to a secret meeting between President Kennedy and Soviet Ambassador Dobrynin, the dispute ended quickly which it's the main reason why World War III never began in the first place. If World War III happen, then millions of people would have lost their lives and homes, and thousands of money would have been wasted on weapons. On the other hand, President Kennedy wanted to prevent World War III from happening, so he have decided to release a command not to sent troops and invade Cuba. However, his statement contradicted because on October 22nd, he sent the U.S Navy to take away all the shipments from the Soviet Union. This led a more heated tension between those two nations. Those nations thought of the bigger picture by having a secret meeting and made an agreement for the Soviet Union to remove missiles from Cuba and for the US to remove their missiles from Italy and Turkey. The incident teaches us that people should always remain calm and think things thoroughly in a midst of a problem. This will prevent any more tensions/problems to arise and would help people to solve things more quickly.

The Cold War era was a very dark time for the United States. It was a period of time where tensions were high between the two leading countries of the world. One act that can be shown as an example is the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1961 U.S President John F Kennedy failed to overthrow Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro in what is called the Bay of Pigs invasion. As a result this led to Cuba asking for help from the Soviet Union. Both the U.S and Russia both armed missiles at each other and were ready for World War 3.

Luckily, Secretary General Robert Kennedy and Russian Ambassador Anatoly Dobrynin secretly talked it out between each other and led to the agreement of disarming the missiles pointed at both countries.

At the time this was looked as a cowardly move by both countries. The citizens of both countries thought there leaders had bargained with the enemy. This wasn’t the normal thing to do. But the great and cool minds of President Kennedy and President of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev saw the reality of a World War 3. The reality was cities being wiped out because of nuclear weapons. Families being torn apart because of war and political differences. If it had not been for their cool minds, this world would be a much more different place.

With the push of a button, our entire life can change. The people we know, the friends we have, our family, and our neighbors could cease to live with a push of a button by a person with power. On October 16, 1962, military advisors in the United States urged an airstrike on missile sites and invasion on Cuba. Cuba had seeked help from the U.S.S.R who was happy to comply. Both nations had nuclear weapons who could have potentially wipe out a union.

On October 22, President Jonh F. The slight communication error or the split-desicion from either party could have started the first nuclear war and end thousands of innocent lives. The Cuban Missile Crisis proved how powerful and dangerous political personas can be and how one desicion from a person of power could dictate our lives and end a nation or the world as we know.

The Cuban Missile Crisis happened Fifty years ago when the United States and the Soviet Union stood closer to Armageddon than at any other moment in history. In October 1962 President John F. Kennedy was informed of a U-2 spy-plane’s discovery of Soviet nuclear-tipped missiles in Cuba. The President resolved immediately that this could not stand. Over an intense 13 days, he and his Soviet counterpart Nikita Khrushchev confronted each other “eyeball to eyeball,” each with the power of mutual destruction. A war would have meant the deaths of 100 million Americans and more than 100 million Russians. Presented with the choice of attacking or accepting Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, Kennedy rejected both options. Instead, he crafted an alternative with three components: a public deal in which the United States pledged not to invade Cuba if the Soviet Union withdrew its missiles; a private ultimatum threatening to attack Cuba within 24 hours if the offer was rejected; and a secret sweetener that promised to withdraw U.S. missiles from Turkey within six months. The crisis was resolved at the last minute when Khrushchev accepted the U.S. offer.

The power fell on two people which began the Cold war, the United States and Soviet Union. Everything was so sensitive during this time period. Kennedy and the Russian soldiers had to remain calm throughout the whole time, they had to think in the future, stay positive, not be selfish, and be sure of his decisions. Kennedy was the face of the United States and was in charge of nearly everything. He spoke to the Russian diplomat and prevented him from launching anything at us that will begin anything. At last the Cold war never began. He thought about his people and everything the Cold war would cause and made the good choice about not starting the cold war. It would have caused several problems to the people.

As nuclear devastation loomed over the horizon, the two superpowers of unimaginable strength and influence crossed paths over a little island known as Cuba, and thus ensued what was to be known as the Cuban missile crisis. The blind ambition to gain advantage over the over superpower lead to missile placements near the Soviet Union and eventually near the United States in response. Fear led to this standoff, and can only imagine the emotions of the citizens not in control. The slightest provocation could have led to the complete and absolute destruction of not only man, but life on Earth. Both sides where filled with tension and both had unique decisions that had they not taken place, we wouldn’t exist to discuss it now.

However, instead of using aggression to solve this issue, both sides remained level headed in precarious situations. Kennedy declined an invasion of Cuba, and the US didn’t react toward the shot down spy craft; while the Soviet Union didn’t launch a nuclear armed torpedo in reaction toward depth charges. Eventually it was understood that something had to be done and Robert Kennedy and Anatoly Dobrynin came to an agreement about the missile placements and thus averted a global catastrophe. Had it not been for these two and the split second decisions of military personnel, one cannot fathom the result of such a scenario, and goes to show that remaining calm and diplomacy are a reasonable course to take than outright retaliation without thought or control.
