In recent discussions of people having empathy towards police officer, a controversial issue has been weather or not they even deserve empathy from individuals. Many may argue that police officers don't deserve empathy because they are racist, bias, and abuse of the power they have. But in many others opinions police officers are just doing their job and most of the time it is citizens fault on why things escalate since they don't want to corroborate. According to this view many communities need to know that most police officers are not bad people nor racist, if there was better communication between an individual and an officer many bad events wouldn't have to happen.

In recent discussions of police officers going through citizens social media and history search, a controversial issue has been whether they are invading people's privacy or doing a good to help solve crimes. On the one hand, some argue that law enforcement should not go through someone's phone, tablet, or computer. From this perspective, you could understand why people feel their privacy is being invaded. On the other hand, however, others argue that police officers going through a person's social media is a great way to find evidence for a crime that was committed.

The question her is what do we have to do to be able to afford these houses or apartments if we still want to stay in the area. Whereas some are convinced that they should just leave the Bay Area because it has become affordable, others maintain that the Bay Area has been their home for many years and they can't just leave to another place. While I understand the impulse to want to stay in the city you were raised, my own view is that if you can't afford a decent house or apartment and are struggling with money and many other situations, you should move to another city or state that you are able to afford so you don't have to go through all these tough challenges.

My name is Iris Ozuna, I'm 20 years old. I am the oldest from two other siblings. I was born in Tijuana, Mexico and moved to the U.S when I was 4 years old. I've lived in San Diego, Daly City, San Francisco, and now in El Sobrante. I'm a very active person, I like swimming, playing soccer, painting, biking, and going out with my family and friends. I've had 3 different jobs, a waitress, cashier, and learning aid at an elementary school. And I just started a new job working with kids and helping them stay off the streets.I've studied cosmetology and got a certificate as a makeup artist, which I work as on the weekends sometimes. Right now i'm studying Criminal Investigation, and hopefully becoming a police officer in 2 years if my citizenship is all done by that time.

I believe many of us can agree that certain things are changing in our world, some things may be better but others are getting worse. In this presentation I will be talking abut 4 important topics, the housing crises in the Bay Area, having empathy towards police officers, the use of technology in law enforcement, and cyberbullying. I feel like i'm a good person to talk about these topics because I can relate to each of them in a way. In my first topic The Housing Crises in the bay I took a lot of interest to it because I used to live in San Francisco and the rent was really high, my parents struggled a lot to pay it on time and we lived in a house of one room, in 2015 they decided to move to El Sobrante which really hurt me because all my friends were there but i had to understand that money didn't come easily. In the topic of having empathy for police officers I take it really serious because I want to be come a police officer and people always tell me a lot of negative things about it because of all the things they see on social media. In the use of technology in law enforcement I thought it would be a good idea knowing more information about what I will be doing and I got some help from my profferer who was a police officer for 16 years. In the topic of Cyber bullying its a very meaningful topic for me because when I was in middle school I got cyber bullied and it was a very difficult time for me not knowing all the resources I had and not having the support I wished to had.

You would think that living in the Bay Area is very pleasant and exciting place to live in from all the pictures, videos and things you've heard from it, but try actually living here. For example in the article “This is how People can Actually Afford to Live in the Bay Area” by Rick Paulas he expresses “The Bay Area of Northern California is well on its way to becoming a bewitching hellhole in which its actually impossible to eke out a living”. The essence of Rick Paulas argument is that for someone trying to survive on the city's $15 an hour minimum wage, that would mean working three full-time jobs and be making 128 hours a week since according to the US Department of Housing you have to make $99,960 a year to afford a one bedroom apartment. Rick Paulas is surely right about expressing that the Bay Area is a “hellhole” in which it’s impossible to live in because, as he may not be aware, recent research has shown that a one bedroom apartment cost $3,000 and up a month.

The standard way of thinking about the housing crisis is that when rent prices go up it forces people to move out into smaller homes and not having enough space for their families, but yet they stay in the same city. As I suggested earlier people need to realize that these rent prices aren't going down anytime soon and if they want to have a good life without having to worry about how much they make to be able to afford living in their homes they should move out of the area they are living in and find an area that fits their price range

My own view is that most police officers do so many wonderful things for us and they put our lives before their own. Though I concede that there are some police officers that abuse the power they have and make very bad choices, I still maintain that we can't judge all police officers the same way because others decided to make bad decisions. For example in a article called “The Need for Empathy and Understanding for Our Police” published by Hands All Together, they express “Police officers are both glamorized and demonized by the press, social media, and popular culture. In reality, the police are human—capable of acts of great heroism, as well as fatal flaws and mistakes".
Therefore people shouldn't be so fast to judge or disrespect a police officer by what they see on the internet because their is more to a story then what you know.

My own view is that police officers should be able to search someone's social media or history browser because I believe that it does help solve crimes that have occurred or help find a missing person or a dangerous suspect. Though I concede that citizens may feel like their rights are being taken away since their phones have many private things on them, I still maintain that police officers have the right to check since everything you post isn't private anymore. For example, in the article “When Cops check Facebook” by Meredith Broussard she expresses “For the past several years, police and prosecutors across the country have been quietly using social media to track criminal networks. Their methods have become more sophisticated: by combining social media APIs, databases, and network analysis tools, police can keep tabs on gang activity”. Therefore stating that checking someone's social media helps them stay informed with what is happening in their communities and what kind of violence is going around. It also helps police officers make fake profile accounts and adding gang members to check with who they hang out and get closer to who ever is the leader.

Davids family created "Davids Law Anti- Cyberbullying pledge" which now makes cyberbullying a crime in Texas. Unfortunately this law isn't everywhere as it should be in my opinion. In California police can't do anything about cyberbullying unless someone makes a other individual fear for his safety or safety of someone in their family, then they would be charged with a misdemeanor.
