I learnt that everybody should do at least something regardless of its importance or difficulty, as it makes the person feel more included and the group more satisfied with the end product. Doing something for the kids also made me feel better about myself as I have contributed to the society I live in. In the future, if I have time, I will try my very best to volunteer again to make Singapore a better place for you and for me.  I feel that helping out the kids has also helped me find kindness and compassion hidden deep within me. Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces when participating in the activities the group had planned reminded me how important the younger generation is to the building of our great Nation and all the hardship they went through. It really made me think that they deserve to have that joy every day of their lives. All in all, this project V experience is unforgettable for me and hopefully my entire group. I have grown in ways beyond my height and weight , in ways that would benefit me and the society in the future. The skills and knowledge this Project V experience has imparted to me would prove useful in future endeavors like PW in A levels, and other projects in general. In view of COVID, and also our age right now, it's not easy to find such meaningful volunteer opportunities, where we can work closely with an organisation to give back to society. I was in charge of the breakout rooms, where I hosted the whole tomato planting session. I guided the students of Life Student Care step by step to plant the tomato seeds with the help of my fellow hosts. First, I was really confident when talking to the students. Despite the fact that I was talking to a whole class of students, I managed to overcome my fear and talk courageously to the whole class. I managed to include all the kids and not make anyone feel left out. For example, along the way, I have to check whether all the students are sooo g each step correctly. Thus, I called out all of the students to show their bottles to check whether each of the steps is correctly done and help them when needed. I clearly communicated all the points and made sure they understood what was supposed to be done before we could proceed. I was able to engage all of them using my cheerful voice as well. When a student does a step correctly and proudly shows it to me, I congratulate him or her too. In this way, as a leader I am able to reward the students with my congratulations as well when something is done accurately which is one of the most important characteristics of a leader. This will make the other students strive for the best as they too want to be praised. However, along the way, I must admit that I became impatient as some students took a really long time to complete each step. Thus, my voice might have changed to a voice of frustration in between. I got the opportunity to know myself better by exploring my working styles and understanding different types of motivation. It also taught me valuable skills. I learnt the hallmarks of true leadership and how to persuade and positively influence others which includes those I don’t supervise. It built my  self-confidence. I learnt how to see challenges from a different perspective. This kind of clarity can reduce stress during difficult times such as when students were not listening attentively at times and build self-confidence. It helps to clarify my vision. This experience gave me a chance to step back from daily tasks to examine the bigger picture and think about how the future may unfold with my leadership skillsI have acquired. Knowing how to develop and communicate my vision, especially during times of change, can empower and motivate others. This experience also helped me learn to better manage my time as time was limited to finish planting the tomatoes and so we had to teach within the given time. I learnt the importance of time and how wasting time unnecessarily might make me very unproductive. I can apply these skills I have acquired in the following ways. I can participate in the various leadership boards in school and give back to my school using my leadership skills to maintain the pride of the school. I can get involved in sports teams or other after-school activities and even lead them as well such as Co-Curricular Activities such as CCA. I would like to find volunteering opportunities such as blood donation drives to help people in need and to usher them to various stations and in this way, help them in their work and give back to the community. I would also like to get an internship to experience work life and apply my skills in the real world to see how I fare. I will improve my skills if I need to along the journey as well. Simply, when I am working on a project with my friends l, I will ensure everyone participates and everyone’s opinions are respected. We will try to see how to combine ideas together and become more productive using the skills I have acquired through this experience and make sure our project becomes successful. I would like to lead my team and model their way to reach our common goal together as well!

Due to the fear of getting teased, I am very worried when it comes to sharing my ideas. I always start thinking that my ideas are unacceptable and not feasible. I should start sharing my opinion to my group members courageously without the fear of getting teased. I should remove the opinion that my ideas are bad and actively contribute ideas to the team. Although I am useful in the process of activating our ideas, I should also be more active in the brainstorming of ideas and discuss with team members fervently. In this way, when all our ideas are combined, we can be more productive and effective in implementing the best idea which can produce the best fruits from our labour.

This experience was surely useful in increasing my exposure to the community. I gained much knowledge about the outside world other than my school life and my home. I realised that not all children in the world are as well off as me. There are so many students in my own community who are suffering from many different monetary problems and are living in hardships. I realised that we need to help them and not get them ostracised from society. I also learnt that there are many organisations around us which are ready to help such needy children which I am very proud of and I hope to be part of them too. This experience surely increased my engagement with the community. Through communicating with them, I realised that different children have different needs. We as volunteers should adjust ourselves accordingly to help them. Some students were slow but some students were really fast. Thus, I managed to interact with them accordingly and made sure everyone was included. I had a fun time talking to those young kids as well while helping with their tomato planting as well. By helping them in this VIA I really engaged myself and empathized with this community better and understood the needs and problems of my community. It depends on students like us to cause a change in their lives by taking part in such volunteering activities!!!
