Mrs. Mugabonake
1. "The first drill was a marathon. Well, not exactly a marathon. We had to run one hundred laps around the gym. So forty of us ran. And thirty-six of us finished" (Alexie, 138).
2. I chose this song because it sets the scene for competition, and the mood is very on edge, so I thought it matched well.
3. The mood this creates is feeling like you are on edge, about to know whether you will win or lose.
4. Alexie accomplishes this on-edge/ competitive mood in his readers by using sentence structure. Alexie purposefully uses very short sentences to highlight the fact that forty players ran but only 36 finished. It stands out more because of the short sentences and makes you feel eager to know what is going to happen.

Tone: Accomplishment/ pleasing feeling

Damian Henderson
1. "No, I like this other one more," Coach said. "The quality of a man's life is in direct proportion to his
commitment to excellence, regardless of his chosen field of endeavor."
"That's a good one."
"It's perfect for you. I've never met anybody as committed as you."
"Thanks, Coach."
2. I Chose the song "i won't give up" by Jason Mraz because i think it shows the perseverance that he has to do basketball, even while he's hurt himself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1-4u9W-bns)
3. The mood this creates is the emotion you feel when like an adult/ person you look up to, gives you feedback and tells you that you might acctully be better at something then you thought
4. Alexie achives the pleasing/ Accomplishment feeling by using the diolouge and characters to sort of make the coach appear as some sort of fatherly figure to Junior, which makes the words he says mean more and make Junior feel good about himself.

1.On the first day of practice i stepped on the court and felt short skinny and slow. All of the white boys were good and some were great. I mean there were some guys 6 foot 6 and 6 foot 7.
2. I chose this song John Cena themesong because i think it shows you not to give up when your going up against great competition.
3. The mood this creates is to fight back and never give up when you are worried about losing.
4. Alexie uses imagery to captivate the words

Yajaira Z
1. "He screamed; I screamed. And then I stopped short, about fifteen feet from the hoop, and made a pretty little jump shot. Everybody in the gym yelled and clapped and stomped their feet."

2. The song I chose was Kids by Current Joys (https://youtu.be/ttrwiXmBLI0) because the song give a cheerful attitude about being young and following your dreams.
3. The mood the song creates is being able to be free spirited.
4. Alexie uses imagery to captivate the readers attention to create their own idea of what is happening in the court that is giving a cheerful atmosphere.

1. Coach threw me the ball and said, “Go.”

So I turned and dribbled straight down the court.

A mistake.

Roger easily poked the ball away and raced down toward his basket.

Ashamed, I was frozen.

“What are you waiting for?” Coach asked me. “Play some D.”

Awake, I ran after Roger, but he dunked it before I was even close.

“Go again,” Coach said.

This time, Roger tried to dribble down the court. And I played defense. I crouched down low, spread my arms and legs high and wide, and gritted my teeth.

And then Roger ran me over. Just sent me sprawling.

He raced down and dunked it again while I lay still on the floor.

Coach walked over and looked down at me.
2. insecurities- jess glynne. i chose this song because its kind of talking about having insecurities like junior has because he doesnt feel like he can make it because the other guys are tall and big.
3. the mood of the song is kind of sad but i chose it because of the lyrics.
4. alexie uses imagery so the readers can imagine the situation.

Get mad, Arnold, get mad."
2. Song I chose was "Hall of Fame" I don't really know that much song but I found this one encouraging.
3. The song helps put more volume and hype up the moment where the coach was giving a pep talk.
4. Alexie uses imagery to help picture Junior in a mad state where their is going to be pain and tears.

Dominic Shoals

1. "I almost didn't try out for the Reardan basketball team. I figured I wasn't going to be good enough to make even the C squad" (Alexie, Ch. 20).
2. I chose a song named "Hall of Fame".
3. I chose it because it explains how when you want to work towards a goal it will be worth it in the end.
4. Sherman Alexie accomplishes this by using imagery and dialogue because he really gives us a sense of how Junior is feeling and also really expressing how the setting looked in this chapter.
