Colours - The Youth Uniform is black and white to match the St John symbol.

Brassards - We use brassards to display our badges, like community service hour badges, and the colour party badge.

Shoes - We wear black polished lace up shoes because they look formal.

Rank slides - We use rank slides to show rank, for example a cadet corporal has two pyramids one on top of the other, and cadet leaders get a wiggly line in between two straight lines.

Hats - you get different types of hat depending on your rank, normal cadets get a black cap with the St John logo on it, cadets who have competed in a national competition get a beret, and higher ranks get wide brimmed hats.

It also helps because it makes them easier to wash, & helps to prevent stains.

Rank slides - For this uniform the rank slides aren't actually used for rank, instead they say what their job is.

Buttons - These uniforms have concealed buttons which make them less likely to catch on things

Name tags - These uniforms have velcro name tags so that you can quickly remove the name tag if you need to wash the uniform, and it also means it won't catch on things easily.

- We need to present ourselves in our uniforms well, to make ourselves and St John look professional and respectable. If we look presentable while wearing our uniforms, we will make St John look good.
- In the long history of St John, many people have fought to keep St John going. People have worked together to make St John a proud and respectable community. So we must maintain the amazing reputation they have struggled and succeeded to give St John.
- Wearing our uniform is also about representing ourselves. While wearing our uniform we should be proud of ourselves and of each other.
- Another big part of our uniform is about representing our community, whether it's your St John community, neighborhood, or family. You must try you're best to make them proud, and show them in a good light.
- The way we wear our uniform and our behavior reflect on St John as a whole. So it is important we wear our uniform correctly, with pride, and we act the way we want St John to be seen.

Design - The NZ Navy uniform design hasn't changed much since the world wars, before then it used to be made out of canvas, but now it's made of wool serge. The uniform is apparently not very comfy but is very functional and it does its job. The uniform is sometimes referred to as "hairy dogs" because it can be itchy . There are also three different uniform designs: Summer, Winter, and general, for different situations.

Trousers - The NZ Navy trousers used to have 7 stripes on the bottom to represent the 7 seas. The trousers can also be used as a life jacket if you're stranded at sea, all you have to do is take them off, tie the legs together, and fling them over your neck trapping the air inside of it, this lasts for 15 minutes before you must do it again.

Collar - The Collar on the NZ Navy uniform has 3 stripes on it to represent the 3 main oceans: Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific.

Lanyard - The NZ Navy lanyard is usually worn around the waist with a pocket knife, except on formal occasions.

The academic regalia uniform is worn at graduation ceremonies by the graduates/graduands.

Graduates get a black gown, a hood, a scarf, and a trencher, and undergraduates only get a black gown.

The colours on the graduates hoods and scarves represent what type of degree they are receiving like purple for engineering, or jade green for dance.

The fur edging on the hood shows if they are a bachelor or a master; bachelors get fur, masters don't. This is because in monastic times the senior monks would choose the best spots by the fire therefore not needing the fur to give extra warmth.

The uniform also has a square topped hat known as a trencher, that is traditionally not worn inside, except by the chancellor, vice-chancellor, and proctors. However Doctors get soft round caps instead.

The Swiss guard uniform was designed by Jules Repond in 1914. But it was based off outfits from the 16th century. The Swiss guards have different insignia and shoulder marks to show rank, for example a hauptmann (captain) has a blue shoulder mark with 3 stars, and an oberstleunant (lieutenant colonel) gets a grey shoulder mark with 2 stars, as well as different equipment and feathers on their hats. The designs are inspired by paintings of renaissance clothing by Michelangelo and Raphael. All recruits must be catholic, 19 - 30 years old males and at least 1.74m tall, with either a professional degree or a high school diploma, and have to have completed basic training with the Swiss armed forces.

The NZ cricket team (The Black-caps) wear a black & blue uniform. Cricket players get a kit called cricket whites or flannels, containing off-white shirt, trousers, jumper or vest, hat or helmet, and a jockstrap for men. These are worn for test matches, with just their country or region's logo on them, because tests are more traditional and formal than the shorter games.

While playing the shorter games they wear their coloured uniform. Those have logos of their sponsors and kit manufacturers all over the shirt, on the NZ uniform shirt, it has the ANZ logo on the front centre, the silver fern on the left, the Ford logo on the right, and Canterbury on the right sleeve.
