If I was in Jack's situation, I'd first hunt or find food, get some more supplies, then borrow someone's phone to call a trusted family person, that can drive. If they didn't have a phone, I would ask them to take me  to the park rangers who could help me find my mother. As a last resort, I would find a road and try to hitchhike home.  Upon my return home, my mother would hug me and then punish me for hitchhiking.
