Intervention Strategies

Formative assessments are given to determine a student's progress. It is important for teachers to use the data they collect from formative assessment to monitor student achievement. When teachers manage their data properly, they can use formative assessment to help drive instruction. Formative assessments can also be used as an intervention strategy for a struggling learner. When a teacher sees that a student or a group of students in struggling in a particular area, the teacher can use their assessment data to form intervention groups or come up with other ways that will help getting those struggling learning back on track. Formative assessment is often used in Tier 1 of RTI. If a few students consistently struggle with a subject, they may be moved to tier 2 and receive more thorough intervention. If the entire class is struggling with a subject, this lets the teacher know that they need to differentiate instruction. Some science intervention strategies include;teaching vocabulary, peer-learning groups, targeted homework, learning mentors, one-on-one coaching, in class support, positive reinforcement, and quality feedback.
