F1RST OF THE ROLL

Photography has always been my passion, especially when it comes to film photos. This artwork represents my enthusiasm for it and I chose the Fujicolor c200 film roll to portray the subject of my life. I mostly use this film roll to take film photos as this roll provides a green record, making up a really youthful tone for the photos. Therefore, I pick up the warm tone for my film roll blending it with cold tone colour for the background, using the Fauvette palette of white, green, yellow, red, and blue. Adding to the overall pattern, I incorporate different impasto influenced by Van Gogh's technique.

BOLD

For this adaptation of Sheppard Fairey's famous poster of Obama, I took a portrait of my friend - Phuong - and picked the two main colours that represent her characteristics. I chose dark olive green to present her calm and warm aura, while orange represents her passion and determination in her targets. Lastly, I picked the word "BOLD" as it first came to my mind when I think about her.

ALICE

I chose the picture in that Alice had her head upside down. Then I imitate the art style of Li Ya Wen which consist of big eyes, dark eyebrow and also the pink skin colour. Still, I couldn’t fully adapt to the colour palette of the artist as I realised the composition and the surrounding of Alice in the photo will be hard to recognize if I follow the colour scheme of the artist.

Vo Thi Sau

My figure is Vo Thi Sau, a Vietnamese schoolgirl who fought as a guerilla against the French occupiers of Vietnam. As I am Vietnamese so I am proud to choose her to represent the pride of my nation. I posterize her photos into 2 levels of black and white as we have to have separate stencils later. I then print the 2 different stencils out on A3 and transfer them to plastic to cut them for spraying paint. After cutting out the two stencils, I then spray the first one which is the white stencil on the canvas carefully. After that, I put on the black stencil as we can see in the photos to complete the photos of Vo Thi Sau using spray paint. It is somehow hard to manage the exact scale of the stencil so I try my best to estimate my cutting to prevent overlap. I do enjoy doing this project as I can be creative and apply a variety of techniques and experience different criteria within a project. I am also happy with my result.
