When I started working with you in 1999, I first appreciated your passion for science education and your infectious laugh. As I got to know you better, your faith in God, commitment to family, and desire for excellence for all students every day, became apparent in everything you did. I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to be both your student and a colleague. (WOW!!!) As a student, I have so many memories from your class including your hands-on approach to learning about the planets, rocks, my times tables, and just making friends. Why did you have to have a student teachers that year?! As a colleague, I admire your encouragement, kindness, and leadership. I'm certain that you will continue to be a light to our community as you teach, serve, and lead others.

Mountain View won't be the same without you! You've made an imprint on the hearts of thousands. I'm honored to have had you teach two of my children and you will always be one of their favorites. I'm blessed to call you my friend. You've been a listening ear and an encouragement for years...I'll be lost without you! Your positivity and encouragement has gotten me through some pretty tough times and I can't thank you enough. I pray you find moments to relax yet still keep busy enough to not drive Leslie crazy! lol You've worked hard and now can pour more into ministry....continue loving on people like you always do. May the Lord guide your steps and direct your path.

You are a hard act to follow sir, and definitely it will be hard to fill your place on our campus!! Thank you for the direct, yet gentle guidance as I learned my way around our school and campus climate! What great memories I have teaching with you all those years! I remember racing you, at the beginning of the year, to get to the library to check out “The Last of the Really Great Wangdoodles” to read to our classes. Remember some of the kids thought we were husband and wife - so funny! I wish you the best of things in your retirement - it’s a blast! Be thinking of lots of hobbies and projects and trips.

My Mountain View memories of you include the following:
Staff Meetings, which you certainly made more lively.
The time you lamented your students needing to peel the oranges given as snacks and a certain first grade teacher responded with a photo of her students and a caption with "so easy even a first grader can do it".
Your organizational skills - I once had to step in as your sub after you slipped in an icy parking lot during a fire drill. It was as the kids say "easy peasy".
Thanks for those memories and others.

Thank you for educating 3 of my 4 kids!! I am honored to teach in the classroom that was yours for so many years. I only wish I had your amazing Tetris-like organizational skills! Can we record your laugh and just randomly play it at staff meetings or in the hallway?! I will truly miss your ability to "see" people. So many times I walked down the hall and you said, "You doing okay?" I'm sorry (kind of!) for all the times I "moved your cheese." The IditaRead sure won't be the same without you!

The Laugh!

I will always remember the laugh! The first time I heard it was in a staff meeting. I think John Wensley made a funny comment and then came the laugh! I asked our principal, Jim Dawson, "Does Dave always laughs like that?" His response was, "You should hear him in the movie theater!"
Congratulations on a great career. You have had an impact on so many lives. I know you will keep laughing and spreading good cheer wherever you go and whatever you do. BTW it was genius retiring during a pandemic so you don't have to do any retirement parties!

It has been a pleasure working with the last three years! The amount of positive impact that you've had on Kenai youth and Mountain View staff is immeasurable. Dave,Congratulations on a great career! It has been a pleasure to have worked with you over the years. I have so many wonderful members because of you. I will always remember so many things, such as: your laugh, keeping everyone on task, saying hi as I walked by each morning, and having a great friend. The one thing I will remember most is our PLC conference trip to Colorado with the PLC team from Mt. View. We ate dinner together as a PLC team, then went off together to see the town. When we stopped one place on our walk. That’s when it all began. Where’s Dave? Me: “He was going to look in the gift shop, I will go find him.” No Dave. Me: “Dave, What are you doing out here I thought you were going to be in the gift shop?” Dave: “Let’s go.” The PLC team laugh for days afterwards. Oh, the places you’ll go! Today is your day.You’re off to great places. You’re off and away!You have brains in your head,You have feet in your shoes, You can steer yourself. Any direction you choose. Retirement is wonderful. With this being my first year working with you I feel cheated of getting to know you better and from all the things that I haven't had the chance to learn from you. I guess I will just have to learn it all the hard way :-) The things I observed this year is that your faith in the living God is your foundation for all you do. From getting us back to reality during staff meetings when we are rabbit chasing (Some of those rabbits you set loose!), to making sure you great everyone with a smile or Hi, and to making sure every student knows that you believe in them and that you know and expect that they will succeed, it is evident you have a passion for people.
