Activism means action taken to create social change: By some direct or indirect act in order to obtain a result, usuallya political or social one.
 
2.       Write a definition of activism in your own words
My definition of activism is the practice of addressing an issue, any issue, by challenging those in power.
 
3.       Create examples to illustrate these meanings

1) Activism: By taking a stand against mainstream policies and demanding solutions.
For certain demands to change policies through such actions.
Eg: protests, strikes, demonstrations, etc. 
 
2) Conducting activism: Constructing new ways of creating alternatives through activism.
Often manifested in lifestyles and meeting people's needs such as housing, food and education. The hope is that they will become role models that others will also emulate and develop.
Eg: Housing and food cooperatives, social centres, workers' cooperatives, new age travellers, squatting, etc.
 
3) Revolutionary activism:concerned with fundamental changes in society and its key institutions.
Fundamentally changing the dominant system to a new way of life and not particularly concerned with reform and long-term piecemeal change.
Eg: An anarchist group may want to see the destruction of capitalism and will work towards this; they could also run social centres or food co-ops to protest against changes in the policies currently affecting their lives.

In our definition, the art activism is about change done through the means of art. It is a combination of behavior and art, using the infectiousness of creativity to infect more people with emotion or reflection or make them depth thinking, and to promote social circumstances for change.

1)       Keith Haring and AIDS activism

In the 1980s, his artwork addressed important issues in society. His pop art-style makes his messages accessible. He promoted AIDS awareness through a combination of pop art and his famous slogan 'Silence = Death'. Haring's art forces people to talk about AIDS.

Firstly, I felt that the topic was a bit difficult for me and my thinking was too superficial, so much so that most of the students shared the same opinion and did not achieve what I had hoped in the previous reflection.
Secondly, I did not understand some of the questions, such as "distribution channels" and "actionable", which I honestly did not understand very well in Chinese, and this led to a confused mind frame in this seminar.
Finally, I felt stressed talking to people I didn't know well and the seminar had a very strange atmosphere in William's group. It was mainly William who was driving the seminar, and there was often a dead silence in the group when I finished my comments.
