RCMP Scenario F. Welcoming a new colleague. A new colleague who recently moved from out of town is being introduced to your team over lunch. Janet, a long-time team member, asks where they are living. Your new colleague responds, she names a neighborhood, and comments on how well it works for her family. Her partner can walk to work and has joined a local soccer team, and their kids love their new school. Janet responds warmly, “Oh! I live near there too, why don’t you come over for dinner with your family? I’m sure our husbands will get along, mine plays soccer too!” Your new colleague is silent for a moment, and looks uncomfortable. Eventually she responds, “Thank you, I would enjoy that.
