When my kids look at their phones and laptops it distracts them from speaking to me, especially when they’re watching their “chinese cartoons” and k-dramas and chatting with their friends online. This ultimately reduces the time I’ll get to spend with my children. While I’ll admit that the information era has vastly expanded methods to connect, there should be boundaries to which we should use these devices, since these children may get too numbed by the massive influx of content and become “zombiefied”- they become unable to think for themselves as they have everything in their fingertips. I do prefer the good old days where I sent PAPER instead of ELECTRIC SIGNALS. *praying emoji*

As our society continues to improve technologically, educators need to gradually incorporate elements of technology to equip students with 21st Century competencies for the increasingly VUCA world. The role of schools is to ensure students know how to put technology to good use eg aid in their learning, collaborative, independent and self-directed learning. Our goal is to ensure every generation of students become responsible internet users. No one is to blame for this phenomenon, but schools will put in utmost effort to groom the children.

School is to blame as that is where people of different backgrounds congregate, and once a student sees a mass of people owning smartphones and going online every so often, they would innately believe that such technologt is needed to 'survive' in the school, be it academically or socially. Furthermore, many schools are starting to shift their resources online, so students who aren't accustomed to technology and the internet still have to resort to them anyway. Social media is the new determinating factor of one's socialbility, and those who dont have it, are excluded from the rest. Whether that makes the online or offline zombies, that is up to societal norms to decide.

The youth are unable to control themselves which causes us to spend a lot of unnecessary time using technology (e.g. social media). We obsess over meaningless things like likes and comments and posts and this results in an overuse of our devices to constantly check on things that we’re missing out on (FOMO). Youth should change their way of thinking and find meaning and validation from other means.

Technology has introduced a new reality to teenagers in which the physical world has become redundant except for our most basic physical needs. We now turn to transactions and interactions largely through the internet and through various types of technology, which has severely limited what brings us together as humans and as people who wish to be together physically to feel alive. I blame society, because the pressure to change all of us into a race entirely reliant on the technology we come up with has made many teens and markets too invested in technology. Society has made it unusual to have someone not appear online for two days, as immersion in the web and social media has now become the norm.
Additionally I’m also addicted to my phone and I yell at my own kid for being the same lol

Society
The society around us often influences our daily actions / behaviour even without us knowing it.
For example, a person born into a rural society (eg. countryside) would have an entirely different lifestyle and habits from a person born into a bustling city. Likewise with a person born in the past(our grandparents) vs us, teenagers who are constantly on our devices looking for new trends to follow or to have the new iphone.

We blame the ’society’, but what we tend to forget is that we are the society. if we want to induce change, we first have to change ourselves. As a society if we promote a healthy balance between our technology time and say, tangible interaction we would surely influence the ones around us even without knowing it. Technology is a helpful servant but a dangerous master, by striving to achieve balance between our work and our downtime, we would’nt be deemed as a society such a ‘digital natives’

Schools are to be blamed as schools provide resources for students via online platforms. Schools also disseminate information to students via these portals, resulting in great exposure of technology to students. As they have to access these portals through their devices, the games on the devices will definitely tempt students to click into game applications instead of using their devices for academics. Thus, schools are to be blame for exposing students greatly to these technology and devices.

The Institution repeats its stand regarding the use of technology for educational purposes today. Students are given the full respect and trust that the technology placed in their hands would be fully utilised to aid in their learning process. To take charge of one's own learning is the job of the students and any diversions or distractions sourcing from technology should be minimised and controlled. Parents should not worry too much regarding this matter, as the students are fully responsible for their screentime and its appropriate usage.
