Because most of the hidden treasures aren’t that discreet.

Many friendships are complete,

though some may deplete.

On my very first day.

So many faces to remember,

By the end of my stay.

A simple task has me questioning,

Who I really am?.

Silence floods the classroom,

Like a overflowing dam.

Drawing out the lecturer's quizzical stare,

The thoughts pounding in my head,

filling me with a sense of dread.

Alas, in the darkness,

Smiling faces meet.

Slowly mouths begin to part,

Personalities come alive.

Smiles fill the room,

Ending my feelings of impending doom.

Icebreakers aren’t as cold,

People aren’t as they seem.

Friendships begging to be made.

As we adjust to the place,

Soon to become our enclave.

Months past quickly,

Autumn came and left.

Now enduring winter,

Bonds have been met.

We are no longer afraid,

My days now filled with love.

Hopeful fro the future,

However,

Seasons have changed and so have the diversity.

People no longer have the same interests.

From big groups to simply just pairs,

A safe haven, a prison,

At first it was overwhelming having to get used to a new environment

Are we going to survive in this crowd of different people?

As a teenager you overthink things so much and fear what other people think about you

after a while you begin to realize it’s not as bad as you’ve made it out to be in your mind

When life gives you lemons, you don’t always have to make lemonade, be different and be creative in your own way.

Where days are shorter,

and nights are longer

From nine to five,

same old routine.

To Temple run,

to the busy streets

of Joburg,

to the earsplitting of Konka

Admist the Pride of snobs

a no-mane stared down,

detached from scrutiny

a loner is unfazed.
