I do not usually think about my death, but I sometimes think about the loss of somebody of my family, mainly my grandmother, because she is old.

Because we always read old texts that were written by people that are already dead and I am a nostalgic person, I constantly think about how fast time flies and one day I will also be long gone, but unlike the authors we read I will be forgotten. I don’t mind that because I don’t want to be famous, but it’s a scary thought to just cease to exist and no longer be conscious. Especially because I’m curious to know how different earth will be in the future. But at the same time, I will probably have seen enough by the time of my death.

My family is Christian and we believe that we will go to Heaven. We still pray for my deceased grandfathers by lighting candles every time we go to Church. For me it is difficult to put so much faith into the afterlife because it is a too complex concept to grasp.

I'm not quite sure what death means in general terms in my country, but I feel that most people are scared of it, or intimidated by it. I sometimes think about death, but mostly in terms of my older family members. It saddens me but I don't think it is a feeling of fear. As for my personal death, I do not wish to die that young in life, but at the end of the day I understand death as part of a cicle, and a necessary part of life (and unavoidable), and I even consider it a beautiful counterpart to life.

I'm not sure if I believe in an after-life, it would be fun to be a ghost and mess with the living, but I do not actually think this is possible. I wouldn't like to be remembered as something big, at the end of the day I'm just another person.

I think about death on a daily basis, specially the death of relatives and significant others, and it makes extremely anxious. However, I also try to relativize it and understand it as a part of life, rather than its opposite. I don’t necessarily believe in an afterlife or anything of that sort, but I like to think in the circularity of time and I find comfort in the idea that death is not definite, but rather a transformative process, in which we feed from the world or Earth (?) and are fed back to it, thus participating of an endless cycle of death and rebirth, like salmons going back to breed and die in te river where they were born, being an essential part of the ecosystem. Edvard Munch writes “From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them, and that is eternity”, and I live by that idea. Concerning my remembrance, I don’t particularly care about being great and remembered by a lot of people, I simply would like to be remembered by my loved ones, and as long as they don’t forget me, I don’t mind if everyone else does. As to being remembered by something, I’d like to be remembered for the love I gave, which I hope will live on even after I’m gone. All my worldly possessions will fade away and my physical body will deteriorate too, but my love is the most valuable and eternal thing I have and that will survive after me.

As my clases mates I think death in Spain is seen from a Christian point of view generally, though there are more and more people who don't believe in God anymore and for them death is just the failure of your system. For me, death is something that can happen and one has to accept it, however sad it is. I do think about death, more specifically, the death of losing someone, rather than my own death, as after that happens it won't be me who suffers, but those around me.

Death in Spain is very often linked to Catholicism, bearing in mind the concept of the Paradise and the afterlife, a better place to exist than the Earth. However, I believe that nowadays, people start to feel less related to this religious idea. Hence, death is starting to provoke feelings of anxiety and fear, as it's my case. I think that the Catholic thought of the afterlife creates tranquility when people think about death. Then, since people are starting to separate their thoughts from religion, they start to feel anxious about it, since there is no knowledge of what happens after life. Anxiety is a normal reaction towards unknown things.

Christians think that, if you've been a good person when you were alive, you'll go to Heaven, but if you were not, you'll go to Hell. We haven't thought of our own deaths, but we do think about it when it comes to our loved ones. We would like to be remembered by our relatives as good indiviuals.

In Spain, the concept of death is deeply intertwined with Christianity, permeating both cultural practices and individual beliefs. Death is often viewed as a passage to the afterlife, where the soul faces judgment and is destined for either heaven or hell. This Christianized perspective makes a "bad" experience of death. While the promise of an afterlife offers hope, the inevitability of parting with loved ones and facing the unknown can make us have feelings of sadness and fear. This tension between faith and mortality is reflected in cultural expressions such as funeral rites, where rituals and prayers are performed to honour the departed.

I think the concept of death in Italy is not different from the Spanish one. The catholic religion says that life doesn't end with death and there's going to be something after it, but personally, I don't believe in it. I think that dying is like falling asleep: you don't realize you felt asleep until you wake up. So I think that death is like this, but the difference is that the part of the "realization" is not there. So life just stops. It's distressing when I think of death, especially when it's about people I care about and when I'm aware that I have limited time to spend with them.
