• Communication in society is one of the most important things, because without communication we could not express our feelings and thoughts to other people. Communication is key to every part of our lives.

What are the main aspects of communication and context? How do they affect the communication process?

• The main aspects of communication and context are the environment that the situation is happening in and another very important factor is the people that you’re communicating to. The people and the environment affect the communication process considering that you can not communicate in an informal way to your boss or any superiors. On the other hand, you can act and communicate differently when you are with friends or family. 

• This is vital for conveying and showing your messages because linguistic conventions help to add more coherence to the message. The way they achieve this is by using the proper grammatical rules, the correct tune, if it's a serious subject, being more professional, and as for an unserious one, the opposite, vocabulary, etc. Linguistic conventions also help to maintain interest in the subject that is talked about. It can be concluded that linguistic conventions show that you care for the audience to whom you are introducing your messages and help to improve communication between both parties.

Why should you modify the quantity or quality of information you provide according to the communication media and its context?

• Because if one does not give the correct context, it can be interpreted in the wrong way, and the original idea could be lost. At the same time, there are moments where one must show seriousness in the way they provide the interaction, given that this will show that if they are taking this seriously, then the subject will also be serious.

How could you describe the linguistic simplification process? 

• It is a process where, at the moment of expressing yourself, one uses a vocabulary that is considered more casual; it is also straightforward and uses mechanisms such as irregular grammar or a changed vocabulary, usually, this will depend on the cultural context the person surrounds themselves with. Another way the text can be simplified is by taking out some words from the sentence, but the context will still remain the same. This way of talking will usually be natural, given that we do not overthink when we are speaking about this matter and/or because we didn't practice or rehearse what we wanted to say beforehand.

• I chose to go with a more professional approach because the letter is a serious subject and I wanted to be taken in such a way 

What were some of the challenges you encountered while preparing your texts? 

• For the letter of intent, looking for information was not necessarily hard but a larger process. As for looking for a story, I considered it the most difficult part because I wanted to connect with a quote that could relate to my own goals and missions while at the same time relating to my field of study. As for the elevator speech,, it was not as hard as the letter, but it was still hard to think of the correct way to introduce myself quickly without making my listener bored.

What linguistic conventions did you take into account while preparing both texts?

• In both texts, I used formal frases and correct grammar; I avoided using casual speech or colloquial words; the tone I used was a serious one in both of them. The only difference would be that in the spoken speech, I used different connectors because I am talking face-to-face with someone.

How useful is taking the context into consideration when we develop different texts?

• Is really useful because it will help me to set the correct tune and the correct grammatical rules for each occasion, and at the same time, it will help me to get my message across the way I wanted it without it being interpreted in the wrong way.

• The function of the textual and paratextual elements is to make the reader pay more attention to those words. When the font size or the color of the letters change it captures more the attention of the reader.

What is the purpose of identifying the elements and characteristics that make up a text?

• Its purpose is to aid in comprehension, which helps the readers grasp the meaning of the topic that they are reading. This also helps the critical thinking of a person develop, because they can question, agree, and interact with the text.

Based on your observations, what are the main differences between a popular article and a scientific article?

• The differences between a popular article and a scientific article are mainly how the text is written and the content in the article. Scientific articles tend to be written in a more academic or formal language, in the other hand, popular articles tend to be written in a more informal everyday language.  

• Expository texts are structured in a way that can inform the reader in a clear and logical way. These usually contain an introduction, body, and conclusion. An introduction gives the essential background and presents the main idea, followed by topic sentences that summarize the major ideas are founded in the body, and finally, the conclusion wraps up the discussion and offers ramifications. 

How can you identify each section in an expository text?

• In an expository text you can identify the sections by following each of the main subheadings, most of the time it will be in bold, so you can get to difference the structure and how the text is divided, getting to identify it in a much more noticeable and easier way.

How useful are the apps you used?

• The apps used are very useful for our team because we can all work at the same time and see how we are contributing to the activity.

What is the greatest difficulty you had while using those apps?

• These types of apps are innovating really fast and they include new options and tools that are difficult to know all of them

• The essential point and main argument is stated in the thesis statement, which is supported by the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. In order to show that they understand the subject, the author addresses and refutes counterarguments in addition to providing evidence to back up their own statements. Rhetorical devices and persuasive language strengthen the argument's persuasiveness and the text's impact is enhanced by language that is precise and clear. 

How can you identify each section?

• Usually, the introduction starts with a hook or attention-grabbing line to draw the reader in. As we move on to the body paragraphs, each one typically begins with a topic sentence that presents the primary idea of the paragraph and is followed by facts, figures, or instances that provide evidence for the claim made in the paragraph. Lastly, the conclusion—which frequently uses expressions like "In conclusion"—serves to restate the thesis and summarize the key points. 

Why is it easy to make a fake argument?

• Nowadays, with technology, it is easier to create fake images and videos, and the human brain is programmed to see and believe. We can still identify when a picture feels suspicious, but someone who doesn't have a lot of knowledge related to technology can be convinced easier. Also, rather of using reasoned reasoning, fake arguments frequently rely on emotional appeals. This may increase their persuasiveness even in the absence of factual backing.

What are the consequences?

• False arguments can influence people and institutions to make bad choices in the areas of politics, health, finances, and interpersonal relationships by feeding them incorrect information or erroneous ideas. By polarizing opinions, these can further exacerbate social differences by making it more difficult for people to establish common ground or have productive conversations.

• By improving understanding, communicating emotions, and establishing a connection between communicators, it affects the idea exchange. Cues like posture, gestures, and expressions of the face are included in this, which have the potential to clarify and strengthen spoken messages. 

What is active listening?

• The process by which a person engages fully in a conversation in order to comprehend the speaker's message and obtain further details. Paying close attention to the speaker is part of it.

What is the difference between hearing and listening?

• Hearing is a process that requires active engagement and effort to comprehend, interpret, and respond to the conversation; on the other hand, listening is an activity that involves perceiving sound waves through the ears without conscious effort. 

What is critical reading?

• Instead of merely absorbing a text, critical reading means analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting it. Through critically examining the author's evidence, assumptions, and arguments, readers must engage with the material.Through this process, deeper understanding is fostered, and readers are encouraged to develop their own opinions based on a well-reasoned analysis. 

What is the relationship between active listening and critical reading?

Both of these involve engaging with the information. By encouraging a mindset of inquiry and being open to a variety of perspectives, people can improve their ability to critically read by cultivating skills in active listening. Critical reading, on the other hand, improves active listening by enhancing analytical skills and facilitating comprehension during oral communication.

Why is it important to give credit to the ideas of other authors?

First of all, it serves as a tool to liberate people and communities, as it offers them the necessary information upon which they can make the necessary choices. In this way, people in need and social structure as a whole will benefit from accessing information since the opportunity and threats will be comprehensively seized and avoided as far as possible. Furthermore, it also increases the creativity levels as it holds the ability to incorporate everyone’s ideas and make them better. How important is it to plan and support your arguments?

• It is one of the most crucial parts of giving a speech. Oftentimes people memorize what they are going to say, but it ends up being counterproductive since forgetting a word might throw off your entire speech. Instead, it is best to plan and understand your arguments and different critical points in your speech. This way you can have more flexibility and seem more organic when giving your speech. If you forget anything, just go off the arguments you had pre-planned and continue your speech.

What was the most challenging part of this task? Why?

• The most challenging part of this task was to think about the myths because we haven’t heard many misconceptions about our major.

What is the impact of non-verbal language and word choice?

• These greatly influence communication by shaping message perception, body language helps us to transmit emotions in a way that words can, and this also adds to our own words, as for specific word choices, they affect the tone, which will help us to transmit a message in a way we want the receiver to interpret it.

I decided to organize it in modules, I find it easy to organize them in columns, it also serves as a way to organize my activities chronologically, based on the activities I did first and then last.

The modules are separated by colors, this to improve my Portafolio visually.
