         <title>Theatre in Medieval Times</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-With the fall of the Roman Empire there was a period known as the "Dark Ages"&nbsp;<br><br>-There was a lot of political turmoil and the church was the only "stable" government at the time.&nbsp;<br><br>- It was in Chrsitian ceremonies where theatre seems to have been "reborn"<br><br>-Earliest example of a drama that we see is a four-line dramatization of the resurrection that first sung by a choir<br><br>-By 975 it had become a little drama within the service most likely played by altar boys&nbsp;<br><br>-The practice grew, and many playlets developed dealing with biblical themes&nbsp;(Easter, Christmas, 12th Night)<br><br>-The church did have some control of drama outside the church, but then secular groups or guilds started to slowly take over certain plays or stories<br><br>- Plays are more complex Register, Keeper of the Register, Master of Secrets&nbsp;<br><br>-But all of the stories were based either on the Bible or some religious teaching&nbsp;<br><br>-Municipality took over in some cities, but the church still needed to approve the scripts even when its role diminished<br><br>-Big changes between 1200 and 1350&nbsp;<br><br>-Of course with diminishing church control we see shifts toward more secular themes and practices<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
