I think it's important for teachers to have courage so that our students can see and feel that not only are we encouraging our students to be courageous but that we are also courage too! One idea that I struggle with and hope to get better in is collaboration. I think it's a personal preference for me when it comes to doing my own assignments or work. I also fear of what others might think of my work when it comes to working together.

While keeping in mind I am still a student I will be beginning my externship for SLP in the fall at a school district and do have fears of if I will catch on and succeed, rising to the occasion. Courage is a hard feeling for many to develop and I think it takes time to build comfort but having the courage to give things a try is the best place to start. On the other hand I am very excited to collaborate with all the staff at the school district and so excited for the experience!

I am most comfortable with collaboration. I like bouncing ideas with another person and asking for other people's input. I also find myself working really well when in a team as the pressure to not let the other team members down really motivate me to do my best on a timely manner. When left to my own devices, I tend to find myself doing everything at the last minute. During my undergrad student teaching era, I also really thrived under a co-teaching model with my mentor teacher. It was nice to feel like we were equals in the classroom and sometimes we would make suggestions to each other to help each other improve.

I know that I can think through a situation and academic assignments, especially with document analysis. However, because of being bullied a lot and dealing with a lot of personal trauma from former friends and exes, I struggle with feeling accepted when I self-express, so I often close that part of me off. I hope to work on that in this course.

As a student teacher, and even before, I am able to embrace diversity and celebrate different cultures and backgrounds. I am considerate of the environment I present to students and those around me, and always want to make sure everyone feels comfortable. It is especially important for teachers to be able to adapt to student needs. Not everyone learns the same. Not everyone has the same background.

I think these are all great qualities to have especially when pursuing a field where we are helping and advocating for others. Out of the seven self-expression stood out to me because in order for our students or colleagues to feel heard they need to be able to express themselves and feel that their voice belongs. Promoting an environment where acceptance and diversity is welcomed can create the ambiance of welcoming open conversation for all.

As a teacher, these qualities not only help children learn to the best of their ability, but they also teach them the same qualities. Children who have special needs may need a little more love and attention. I have a special love for children with disabilities because I was one of those children. Some kids don't have the love and support system they need at home and a teacher can make all the difference for them. Like in the movies "Freedom Writers" and "Mr. Clark." All these teaching films that make a difference have had an impact on me and my life. I want to be that teacher in a child's life, letting them know that they must work hard every day and believe that they can make a difference. Helping kids in need is the kind of teacher I want to be.

Children have too much access to electronics in their own time and it has now increased in schools. Many teachers can't determine how electronics have impacted learning. For example, the amount of distraction they can cause. Although schools take steps to block certain sites, students may have a challenging time focusing on the task at hand. That's why I think I'd rather teach with outdated textbooks and pencil and paper as a parent and future educator. As I continued my observation, I saw that a respectable number of students were not paying attention. On the day of my observation in high school, I attended an English class. The children did not concentrate on what the teachers were saying, most of the children were on their phones. They weren't paying attention to the lesson, I know they're younger, but they don't seem to care. Seeing that most students don't pay attention to their teachers, made me think that they don't take school seriously. Students must be present during school hours, not only physically but also.

Autonomy is an area in which I can work on with myself. I enjoy having personal freedoms and making decision for myself now that I am an adult. However, autonomy comes with its downsides as well. I am someone who can get anxious about making the "right" decision. Having autonomy means that sometimes I have to make decisions by myself and without opinions or control of others. Sometimes, I find that I get stuck when making decisions due to fear of choosing the wrong path. It is difficult for me to then take responsibility if the decision I choose for myself does not work out in my favor. This is something I want to work on as I get older and gain more life experience. As a future teacher, I know that I will help my students make choices for themselves, especially when working with young children. I want to have the capacity to help them make decisions they will be happy with and to help them learn to be independent and feel confident with their own decisions.

One that I feel confident and excited about is collaboration where I am working with professors, supervisors, and peers to problem-solve and support clients. This can be one of the most engaging parts of grad school. The interdisciplinary nature of SLP allows for meaningful teamwork, which can make learning and clinical experiences more enriching. One that I feel challenging is autonomy, which is something I want to work on. As a graduate student in SLP, transitioning from coursework to clinical practice can be tough. Making independent clinical decisions, managing a caseload, and feeling confident without constant supervision can be overwhelming.

An area in which I feel like I could work on is Autonomy. Autonomy refers to allowing students to free learn and take charge of their own thinking and responsibility, along with making important personal decisions. Although I think it is very beneficial to give students their own space to learn, it is a hard skill to master because if done incorrectly, it can easily lead to disorder in the classroom. It is also hard to make decisions when they involve other people as well. I hope to learn how to make positive and quick decisions. In order to correctly incorporate Autonomy to a classroom, I would incorporate goals and expectations so students stay on task. An area in which I feel excited and confident about is open-mindedness. I believe this is one of the most important traits an educator should have. Having an open mind will allow students to feel comfortable and interested in learning.

For me, I think that self-expression is challenging because English is my second language. When I speak in English, I feel my brain is working a lot. I need to think about the grammar, content, and culture, because I don’t want to offend the American I am speaking to. So I am not confident in speaking, especially on the telephone.

Although, given clear assignments and goals, I am able to complete writing tasks on my own. I can independently search for information, write reports, create presentations, or perform other tasks by myself. In TESOL 1, I am best at preparing lessons, providing personalized learning resources, facilitating class discussions, and evaluating student work.

The word Autonomy is a new term I am learning from this course. I am the type of person who constantly needs to receive reassurance because I want to make sure I complete a task well or just have it done (checked off). As a future teacher, I would like to learn to put less pressure on myself because I know how smart I am, and when I apply my heart to something, it always gets done amazingly. I get attached to people and overthink a lot of my thoughts. The overthinking affects my relationships with my family and friends, which can become frustrating. I would rather want to think about the beautiful, lasting impact I will have on my students and also on their parents. These families may come from backgrounds that are more demanding than mine, but I want to be a strong figure in their lives who will guide children through their education. On the other hand, I am confident and excited about collaboration, self-expression, open-mindedness, and the other terms for this course. I love doing busy work on my own, with peers, and working with children on any task. I am looking forward to this course and what it has to offer in my teaching journey.

Autonomy is an area where I can grow. Autonomy means making decisions for ourselves and basing the decisions on our own beliefs and values. I have always struggled with making decisions based on fear of the outcome or others judgement. As life decisions have become bigger, my anxiety with making the "right" decision has increased. Something I want to work on is getting better at autonomy and making decisions for myself. An area I am confident in is collaboration. I am a very chatty and personable person and have always loved collaborating with people. As I begin grad school, and prepare to enter the world of teaching, collaboration is a big part of that. I am excited to bring this strength of mine into this class and the profession of teaching.

Collaboration is important in the field of education as we are all a team. Collaborating with our peers allow sus to exchange ideas and create better and effienct ways of delivering lessons. For me, I believe I am confident in my ability to collaborate and keep an open mind. While we all have our biases, its important to keep an open mind when discussing new stratgeties or avenues with our peer teachers. Autonomy is difficult for everyone as there is always a social pressure to do otherwise. Collaboration and keeping an open mind assists with Autonomy as this allows individuals to express their thoughts and opinions in a safe enviorment without social pressure to change one's views.

Collaboration is something that I feel is extremely important when it comes to many things in life. Coming together and working together can make things go much smoother and quicker. However, I find collaboration challenging because I am the type of person to wants to do everything myself. Over the years I became an independent person, so I tend to refuse help from other people even when I am under a lot of pressure. Although, since I have gotten married, had a child, and am working full time, I have learnt to accept help when I realize there is just too much to do. So overall, if I had to say which way is the best, I would definitely say collaboration is the way to go! Split work, quicker results is definitely less stressful and more productive.

Becoming a teacher and stepping in front of a bunch of students who you have to influence takes a lot of courage. It is important to show both confidence and courage because it radiates off you and affects your students. It gives them the courage to do new things. It is a crucial part to being a role model because if you don’t have the courage to do something, but you are trying to get your student to do it, then what type of example are you making? Therefore I feel that courage is key when teaching and even just being a person living their life.

I believe this strength will support other areas of the course, such as open-mindedness and dialogic interactions, since I genuinely enjoy hearing others’ perspectives, exchanging ideas, and asking questions. One area I would like to continue developing is collaboration. While I work well with others, I sometimes find it challenging to step back and share control during group work. At times, shared responsibility can cause some anxiety, as I care deeply about meeting expectations and producing high-quality work. Developing greater trust in the collaborative process is something I am actively working on.

There is a fine line while collaborating between making yourself heard and talking over others and I always fear that I'm walking into doing the latter even if I don't want to.

I think one of the aspects that I will struggle with the least is courage. If I want my future students to be courageous, then I have to practice what I preach.

In this modality of learning I can often find it difficult to express myself. Due to the ways in which our assignments are often set up there are not a lot of options as to how I can display my knowledge. It is often confined to a discussion post which can make it hard to vary from student to student. However, I am open to trying new things and different apps that have never been used in my previous online courses. I already enjoy using pear deck because it allows for drawing or writing to express ourselves.
