The sit-in movement was a nonviolent movement that was in the civil rights era. It started in Greensboro, North Carolina. It started in the 1960s when four Black students sat down at the Woolworth lunch counter in downtown Greensboro. It was an act of desobedience that aroused sympathy. African Americans started this movement, and they used to sit down in places where they weren't allowed. They used to sit in places, and they used to refuse to leave when they denied them service because of their race and color. Some white activists also joined them at some point. This movement also caused disruptions and economic hardship. The economic hardship was caused because the sit-in participants were using the chairs that customers that paid used. It only started with a few people, and it spread across the South in the 1960s and 1961. The sit-in movement ended up affecting 20 states and desagregating many local businesses.

The location was in North Carolina. The location does matter because it moved from the south, spread to the North and kept going all around. Teaching people about segregation. It was an industrial area because it had a lot of business.
