Things are still developing as the school is new and expanding. It's more wholistic yet creates awareness via individual analysis. Has elements of community analysis. Phases help differentiated learning.

To create this support structure, most ELA teachers not only teach at least one ELA phase, but also work within the ELS program to further help with language acquisition and support in all subjects.

IB LA Difference from Traditional LA
The way IB attempts to address language acquisition from a conceptual perspective differs from a more traditional approach where more concrete language skills are usually more formally addressed first. Another major difference is the global perspective and context which makes students focus on more than just language learning; they need to consider what acquiring a language means to them globally.

I only started working there 2 months ago, so I have limited experience with IB authorisation (evaluation).

IB MYP LA vs Trad LA
I think that one of the main differences between the two is that IB LA is concept based, which goes beyond "simple" language-based learning. The students learn more than just a language: they acquire knowledge and understanding of issues that transcend the language (global issues), all the while becoming proficient and fluent in their use of language to be able to discuss those issues. If language truly is culture then the IB model offers a much deeper understanding of different cultures (ie global contexts) through the acquisition of language.

The IB MYP planner requires teachers to think about topics that will foster the development of global citizens as opposed to just teaching English language skills in a traditional TEFL setting. As a teacher, there is a lot more planning required, and while English language acquisition is supported, there is a great emphasis on character development as well.
