Back in 1850, when I used to spend my days in California hunting for gold, life was

unpredictable. I’d wake up every day with the rising sun, my body aching from the

day before. I remember the long days by the river, panning for gold with the sun

beating down on me, my fingers stained with dirt. When the sun set, I would gather

around the campfire with fellow prospectors, sharing stories of lost dreams and

newfound hopes. After coming back to this world, it feels strange to see people with

all kinds of machines that do the work for them. Everything seems fast, and it takes

much less effort to make a fortune.

I thought I had a vivid memory of Versailles and the court of Louis XIV, but I have a memory like a sieve. For the past few days, I’ve been racking my brains about it and the memories finally came flooding back. I can recall the beautiful gardens we used to take long walks in, with astonishing flowers and huge trees, and more than 1000 fountains with chirping birds drinking out of them. I sometimes reminisce about the plays in the theatre we used to go to and seeing the Sun King himself dressed up as the Sun. We would eat luxurious dinners in the big dining hall while chatting in French and listening to musicians for hours on end. Obviously, we would dance too, and I still know my favorite dance moves by heart, so you could say those nights were unforgettable. I have recollections of the men too: they would go hunting every day and only arrive in the evening, and such pleasant memory of mine is when we, young girls were daydreaming about them all day, waiting for them to get back to us so we could finally spend some time together. And the balls we would attend! I have such a clear memory of them. They were perfect, not like these “parties” people attend these days. They were all about enjoying ourselves, dancing and - of course - possibly meeting our future husband or wife. Me and my girlfriends would spend hours doing each other's hair and makeup for the evening while chatting about literally anything and everything. Oh how I love nostalgia!

I have just woken up from my century-long sleep in my mine. It is pretty hard to recall any memories. I decided to emerge from the shaft that I dug 100 years ago. When I reached the surface, I felt a bit of nostalgia after all those years. It was really hard to match the pictures I had in my mind. Back in the day, the light coming out of the houses was really dim, but now it was pleasant to see that light bulbs have gotten stronger. It was a trip down memory lane to see how the world has evolved over the years.

What a curious age I find myself in! The cement streets paralleled with street lights and the cleanliness of the environment really is different from my time. Notably, acting and writing were the essence of my life and have earned me my proudest achievements. Oh, how I loved poetry and

the extravagant ways you could tell a story, what a trip down memory lane. Reminiscing back I miss my wife Anne and dear children but let's not forget my best friend Christopher, who always

used to join me in visiting pubs when I was parched with ideas. Memories of the Globe came flooding back about its everlasting beauty with its vibrant performances and crowds of people. Oh, how my mind is evoking all of these unforgettable experiences, and yet there are still blank spaces. Standing here now really gets me intrigued but I still long for the simplicity of my past and the stage where I performed.

As I stand here in this strange new world, I feel like a ghost lost in time. The sounds and sights bring back memories, taking me on a trip down memory lane; it is all so nostalgic. The noise of voices and the light from screens remind me of a life I once knew, full of secrets and betrayals. As I look around and examine the people surrounding me, I wonder, where has art gone? Why must they suppress color and uniqueness so much in this world? It all looks so bland, but I see a street, a street so familiar. Memories flood back—unforgettable moments of love and loss. I know by heart the faces of those I cared for; they still linger in my mind. But maybe it’s time to embrace this new life, to enjoy the present instead of getting stuck in the past. I feel a strong desire to explore this modern world, but I already know I will need to adapt and discover how to live not so out of the ordinary as others in this era. In doing so, I might not only remember who I was but also discover who I can become.

Everything here is so strange. It’s nothing like 4000 years ago. Back in my time, life

was way easier, there wasn’t modern technology and difficult computers and phones.

We’d wake up when the sun was coming up, then find some food for breakfast, find

shelter, and make sure the fire was still alive. That world was so peaceful. I exactly

remember every sound, smell and the untouched nature, it is unforgettable.

Sometimes, the memories come flooding back, it even feels like I’m still there.

I don’t understand people nowadays. Everything is lit up, even at night, with all these strange, lights blotting out the beautiful sky, full of stars. I try to rack my brains to figure out how people are living here without hunting. My biggest question is where they get their food. I was always up and had my eyes opened in case of danger, I was ready to fight every time, but these people move around all the time distracted, lost in their so-called phones, if I remember the name correctly. Sometimes, I feel a strange nostalgia for my old life. I know it was hard, and way more dangerous than this life in the 21st century, but I enjoyed it.

It all comes flooding back when I smell or hear something that reminds me of my old

life. For example, last night I saw some friends, they were out making food at a

bonfire. The smell of the wood smoke brought back lots of memories that stand close to my heart. It’s like these tiny things jog my memory. I know life was harsh back

then, but at least I recognized every little noise and knew the smell of everything by

heart. But here all the things are so loud especially those weird rolling things which

are on wheels. I try to suppress these thoughts and try to live my life here as peaceful and happy that I can, but it’s hard. Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here, in this new world. And in this “safe and comfortable” world I always feel like something is missing.

I’ve always been a normal person. Every day in my life looked the same, but now it all reminds me of my unforgettable past.

I got out of prison last year and since then I keep reminiscing about how my last few years were like away from my comfort zone, trapped in a deep, dark space.

Even something simple as brushing my teeth brings me back in time when I did all that in prison. I’ve got a memory like a sieve but I don’t think I will ever get through this. Anything I do rings a bell, and takes me back in time. It will be a long-lasting memory. I’m not sure if I will ever escape it. It’s so evocative that it

haunts me every day.

I don’t know what happened, and now I am in a library in this strange new era. I must admit a lot has changed, but that is not what’s bothering me at the moment. I am reading a book about WW2 to see how it ended. I used to be the President, but I couldn’t see how the war ended. Reading the pages felt like taking a trip down memory lane. Memories quickly came flooding back. I remember I would always get hourly updates about the situation on the fronts and how I used to have meetings with generals. I am delighted that Harry successfully took over and ended the conflict. Now the world has changed; they live in peace. The advancements in technology are fascinating, and I truly hope that it will continue that way.

But what I am proudest of is that it seems like the future partially credits me with achieving this. I am pleased that I could serve my nation.

I have a vivid memory of walking through this modern city. I felt both amazed and a tiny bit scared.

Technology just didn’t ring a bell for me, I couldn’t understand a single thing from it. Back in my days, everything was so different and a lot more difficult. We would go on long hunting and gathering trips

in order to collect some food for our families, unlike in this whole new world where people can buy everything they need with their little plastic cards. Suddenly I felt nostalgia then I realized that the evocative burnt smell of charcoal wood took me back to an unforgettable memory when my brothers and I used to dance around a large bonfire carefree and full of happiness. I tried to rack my

brain and recall some other moments from my childhood but as I have a memory like a sieve, sadly many of these moments became blurry or even got blot out. I used to live in a really quiet area so I tried to suppress all the noise this loud city made by covering my ears. I was fascinated by this strange world where life moves so quickly and bright screens light up everywhere, ut I couldn’t help but miss the simplicity and beauty of my old life.

Everything was so much better back then, during the tea party. My memories still feel vivid and fresh as if it all happened yesterday. We were sitting at our table, cracking riddles, and sometimes someone decided to join us, be it invited or not. I recall some of the guests being a tiny bit risible. For instance, there was this one, who showed up without being able to tell the difference between “say what you mean” and “mean what you say”. On top of that not only was our guest severely rude, but also didn’t seem to understand the concept of time, I bet she hasn't even talked to him once! Nevertheless, as much as I would like to suppress it like the traumatic, nightmarish experience it was, I still enjoyed the visitor. It didn’t happen very often, you see. Besides, her visit was helpful, for we were finally able to adjust the watch, even without using the bestest butter(For it didn’t work). All in all I am rather fond of the above-mentioned encounter.

As I stood around with these towering, massive structures of glass and metal around me, my mind took me back to the days of my tribe, and I started to reminisce about the scenery I used to see. Where the sun rose over the green plains, and all around me was the sound of nature. I

recall the times when me and my tribe were in perfect harmony with the land, when we were hunting and gathering, and we had to survive and adapt to the rhythm of the Earth. It all came flooding back, when each day was a challenge, when the hunt did not end well or when the rain

came and extinguished the warm fire. The simplicity of my tribe and mine’s existence seems so far away from the world people are living in now, where everyone is relying on technology and almost everything is based on that. It is strange to see, it does not feel as raw as the life I once

knew.

I have spent 6 months in 2024. Let me tell you my experiences in today’s world and my life back in time. Every day I would get up not knowing what time is. Me and my fellas needed to hunt for food while the ladies were gathering berries. I am trying to suppress my feelings, I hated hunting. In the modern world, the average does not need to face near-death experiences. After hunting, which was mostly unsuccessful, we would come back to our cave and make some music using sticks we found during hunt. I will never blot this memory out, I loved making music. In these 6 months, I couldn’t learn how to make music with a DJ desk. This is something I want to learn. It is so difficult to keep up with the technology, people have phones and computers. Apparently, you can communicate through a gadget. I wish I have had this before, imagine talking to my friends and family during my hunts when I go away, not knowing if I will ever come back. I love how creative people are in the twenty first century, the architecture is fabulous. People must feel very lucky to have a warm and cavernous place to live in, the comfort is exclusive. I am racking my brain, tried to forget the conditions I used to live in. We lived in discomfort, sleeping on the cold ground, and the darkness of the cave reminisces how hard it must have been for us, but when I was living like that, it did not occur to me how undemanding we were. I lived simply, did not feel the need to own so many things, we had to survive but the way we lived out little life was so much happier. Our community was laughing all the time, making silly music.
