At the beginning of the unification of Germany. it was broken up into hundreds of Germanic-speaking states, vaguely grouped into the Holy Roman Empire. A True Nationalistic environment was not developed until the Napoleonic wars. In which soldiers from all over would come together under Prussia to fight Napoleon. However, the rivalry between Austria and Prussia would greatly delay the true unification of all Germanic states; Causing many revolutions. This remained the same until 1861. When Otto van Bismarck was appointed chancellor, advocating his "Blood and Iron" approach; Unifying Germany.

Of all the leaders involved 3 stick out more than the rest. These being Otto Van Bismarck, King Wilhelm I of Prussia and Giuseppe Garibaldi. Otto Van Bismarck was an extremely opportunistic leader, who believed conquest was the superior method of unification. King Wilhelm was the monarch who appointed Bismarck and supported all of his decisions; Attributing greatly to his rise as the first German Emperor. While Garibaldi was mainly associated with the unification of Italy, his movements influenced the rest of Europe including Germany.

Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and Henri Christophe were the three most influential leaders in Haiti's revolution. Louverture is regarded as the main leader of this revolution. He was a former slave who became skilled in the art of military commanding. He was taken prisoner by the French at the end of the revolution to stop war and slavery. Dessalines was a key general under Louverture who took over after his imprisonment, becoming the first Haitian emperor. Christophe was very similar to Dessalines and was later named the first king and played a crucial role in strengthening their governments' infrastructure. (Source: Britannica)

Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the Italian states were not considered under one culture, leading to no attempt at unification. This remained until Napoleon invaded Italy, creating the kingdom of Italy in the north. However, after his fall, they returned to an independent state; Until the revolutions in 1848 in which many citizens fought against their oppressors. This led to instilling confidence in King Victor Emmanuel II to unify Italy once he obtained a more powerful ally.
