Of course, I'm thinking about how I will apply this new learning with my current students. With the littles, it's harder for me to imagine how I'd go about integrating some of these ideas. For example, I can understand the value of having an emergent reader listen to a story. I'm having a harder time picturing the way that I'd help students create images, videos, etc. I am looking forward to learning from all of you and hearing your reflections and insights.
-Madeline

I give a pause to think about Children who have or have not access to technologies, and those who taken-for granted notions on websites that designed for children. From my perspective, I think that parents play a key role for digital literacy. Some parents saw little point in allowing their children free access to play with digital resources. In home, parents can reinforce the digital literacy education and form a powerful partnership for helping children become effective cybercitizens. Schools shall not only teach our children digital literacy but also educate our parents for digital literacy ready for the 21st century literacy.
-Xiangjun Lu

It is time to embrace it! It is written in the CCSS that students need to be reading and comparing texts, not just “books” but multimodal texts. We need to look at our standards and find creative ways to integrate the available resources of the 21st century into our teaching.

- Mary Beth

I find myself often hesitant to role out a new piece of technology or an app to my students without being fully aware of what it does. After reading these articles I am going to let go of that idea and allow my students to learn/teach me the new pieces of technology. More often than not my kiddos understand the apps or games better than I do! There is no reason we can't and shouldn't learn together. This shows students that I am continuing to learn as well as how to handle glitches when things go wrong with technology (like they always do!). All great lifelong learning skills for students!
-Kirsten

Throughout each article, I found that change was an ongoing theme. Students must learn how to survive in a digital world. In order to prepare students for the realities of the modern world educators must incorporate twenty-first century literacy practices. To meet the CCSS the students will need to be able to read, make sense of, and compare more than traditional literacy. Students must become digitally literate. In order to prepare our students for today’s world educators must integrate, incorporate and immerse today’s students in twenty-first century skills.

-Gabby

The idea that all students know how to work tech and are brilliant at it is something we hear all the time, but do comprehend what they are being exposed to? In the articles there was a lot of talk about students being able to swipe, but not knowing how to think and analyze the information. This made a lot of sense to me, it is the reason why it is so important to teach these skills in our classrooms.
-Brenna
