         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Sioux Indians primarily settled in the Modern day North and South Dakotas. Their migratory patterns were induced by animals such as buffalo. The people would follow the animals and their trails.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Sioux Indians had a variety of chiefs including a medicine man, a civil chief, and a war chief. Each had their own responsibilities and together took care of the tribe. The chiefs created and enforced the rules and laws.(FUN FACT) Later on, one of the famous Sioux chiefs was named Sitting on bull, and he is famous for his leadership role in the battle against custard. </p><p>The Sioux Indian tribe included several social classes. There were many nomadic tribes that each had a band chief. if the band chief kept the people full and safe, he was praised. When these sub-levels got low on food and resources, they split up even more.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Sioux economy was dependent on  hunting ,fishing, gathering, and farming. After the Europeans came and horses were introduced to North America, horses were often used to assist in the hunt buffalo. The Lakota did use the hides of the buffalo for trading and clothing.</p>]]></description>

         <title>5) Spiritual beliefs</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Sioux worshiped a  deity/god that was refereed to as Wakan Tanka. The native people  had a strong and deep respect for nature.The spirits of the Sky, Sun, Earth, Buffalo, Bear, and Four Directions of the Winds were genuinely important to these people. </p><p>In order to maintain a connection with Wakan, the people took part in sweat lodges, vision quest,and sacred pipe ceremonies. The sweat lodges were used to cleanse the body ans spirit. Vision quest began at puberty. People would find a solitary place ad fast to open there minds to Wakan. The sacred piped were used during ceremonies. The smoke would carry their prayers and good thoughts to the celestial beings.</p><p>The Sioux did the practice of the controversial Sun Dance.  These practices will lead to the Code of Religious Offenses in the late 1800s. The Sun dance involved self-sacrificed and self-inflicted lacerations. These lacerations connected the person to the world tree ad a warrior would give a piece of flesh as a sacrfice of his famliy and community improvment  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The main family units were called tiyospaye, and consisted of a man, his brothers or male cousins, and their immediate family. Marriage was usually arranged by parents and was generally between the ages of 12-15. Occasionally, if a couple fell in love they could elope as well. Though men were seen as the providers, the society was mainly matriarchal. After marriage, the man was expected to live with the mother family. The Sioux were mainly monogamous. Infidelity was punished.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Sioux believed in one god, named Wakan Tanka. Their religion tied them deeply to the land.&nbsp; Some important spirits were the Sun and Moon, as well as their daughter White Buffalo Calf, who was said to have taught the people how to use the sacred pipe. There was also the spirits of the Wind, Sky, Earth, and the Four directions of the Wind, which each symbolized different facets of their beliefs.</p>]]></description>
