The American Century was a real occurrence in the 1900's that was beneficial for the US and the world. The Bretton Woods Conference, held in New Hampshire established both the IMF (regulating exchange rates and currency) and the IBRD (giving financial aid to poverty-stricken countries). The US had a prominent role in creating these economic institutions, both of which are active today and which have provided aid to a plethora of countries.

The American Century solely hindered the furtherance of our world. It lead to a hunger for power through the mass worldwide want to create an atomic bomb. The atomic bomb was created by the Manhattan Project, both America and Britain, as a major war weapon and it was used very negatively in the world. With other countries scrambling to gain the same power and influence through a weapon of mass destruction such as the nuke. Furthermore, political ideologies clashed leading to proxy wars and many deaths. An example of this was the Vietnam War, between Russia China, and the US. The ideology clash is what involved people in a war that was unnecessary. During the American century it can be argued that America was turning just as imperial as Europe was during their imperialist era, and the U.S. spread its influences in the wrong places and in the wrong way.

The events transpired during the end of World War 2 don't support the emergence of an "American Century", agreeing with Bacevich's claim that this American Century was nonexistent. Events such as the creation of the United Nations were not centralized with American power, but rather they had global interests. The Bretton Woods and the UN conference support a global union, rather than consolidating power and influence solely to the United States. The Yalta Conference, while attempting to support American influence, was criticized within the American society due to the fact that Stalin overrode the promises given at the conference and increased his power and influence by establishing communist governments throughout Eastern Europe. The ending of World War 2 focused on the consolidation and rebuilding of world camaraderie and order, and the emergence of a New World Order didn't support a prevalence of American influence, but a global interest.

We support the claim that the events after World War II do to support an "American Century". The Yalta Conference is often regarded by numerous Central European nations as the "Western betrayal." The Yalta Conference failed to achieve the main outcome that was between German Zones of occupation and having free elections. It resulted in worse relationships and greater American apathy. It also didn't support eastern block countries after the War. Another example is the United Nations Conference. In the United Nations Conference Roosevelt did not want to invite Ukraine and Belarus, which again shows the US not wanting to involve those smaller countries.
