Resources, links, ideas and top tips.... by

This page is going to grow and grow throughout the module and will beome and take away and keep resource for you. What I will do is post up loads of links and signpost to reading and less obviously linked resources. BUT ...what really needs to happen is that you add stuff. Don't be shy! If you have read, seen, heard anything that might be interesting, helpful or crucial for other students then say what it is here. Anything that is connected in some way to social work, relationship based practice, skills etc is welcome.

Self reflection - ask folk you can trust about your communication skills - especially when under pressure, unsure, worried, tired, happy etc...basically all the emotions! How do they know what you are feeling?? That is a great insight to get. For example, I tend to find it hard to hold eye contact if I am lying or not wanting to say what I have to say. I try to work on that as best I can. Self-awareness is the key. So...this resource is you and your friends/family.

I thought this study was really interesting overall, but especially the section which focuses on 'parents as partners in the process'. This section highlights the importance of a social worker building a relationship with a child's parents, as the child will tend to reflect the emotions the parents feel towards the social worker.
