Reading this quote in class, it came to my mind that this quote contains many symbolic connections to the theme of appearance vs. reality causing confusion throughout the play. I chose this quote because it resembles all of the scenes that contain a sense of confusion caused by Macbeth's actions. This establishes a sense of dramatic irony because Macduff is standing next to the killer, but does not know. She talks about all of the unnatural moments happening to her such as her sister’s spirits haunting her every day. She is confused about why her sister is sticking along her life while seeking help trying to find the undefined meaning behind her sister’s spirit. This establishes a connection with Macduff saying, “Confusion now hath made his masterpiece,” talking about all of the disorder that occurred in the unnatural scene, the death of King Duncan. He is confused about the unnaturalness of killing a king who was chosen by the Gods. Also, he begins to seek revenge due to his belief that all of the disorder will continue to occur until justice has been delivered to the murderer.

Killing King Duncan was viewed as a scene full of disorder in Macduff’s thoughts because no one dared to kill a king who was prominent in society. In Macduff’s part of finding out the death of the king, Shakespeare utilizes metaphor to bring his language to life and explain the unexplainable that was viewed in the eyes of Macduff. As a result, this quote helps the reader understand the concept of how people viewed the death of a king. In addition, this quote foreshadows all of the unnatural disorders that are going to occur for example the loss of trust between the people. For example, towards the end of the play, Malcolm has lost trust in the people around him because he thinks that the killer, Macbeth, is sending people to spy on him when Macduff visits him.
