During 1867, Joseph Lister developed the aseptic and antiseptic technique that is used by nurses and physicians in todays current, everyday practice. In relation to the other time periods, further techniques such as the use of rubber gloves were developed and enhanced to decrease the likelihood of infection in patients (Gross). The nurses in this image are assisting the physicians during a procedure, similar to current practice. There are some major differences due to the various advancements that are implemented in todays practice, such as surgical gowns and blue drapes.

Over the past ten years especially, it has become apparent that many technologies are being advanced to promote better patient care. This image represents a nurse utilizing a cellular device to contact a provider. I have used our Telehealth resources many times at work, as this has become very beneficial for those working nightshifts when the providers are not always at the hospital locations. In addition, Telehealth can be used for patients who may not be able to drive to a specific location or prefer to attend their appointments from home. This can increase patient compliance and allow them to manage their health more effectively instead of risking missing their scheduled doctors appointments. This image differs drastically from the other images, as many of these technologies were not yet available or had not been developed at this time. We are fortunate to experience such a drastic increase in these technological advancements.

I found this image off of redit, it is meant to be comical but is it partially true. I have seen a lot of posts like this that can bring about a negative image or portrayal to the nursing profession. As I mentioned, even those who are not in healthcare commonly seem to ask or question, "how bad is your staffing?" So, it seems that this is a very common assumption for the population when is comes to healthcare staffing shortages. Although staffing is a major issue for many hospitals, it comes along with other factors such as caregiver burnout, financial quotas and undesirable working conditions. This image relates to the others on the timeline as it seems staffing has been a struggle in the past decades as well. During the civil war, many nurses served as volunteers because there was such a high demand for their help as this remains valid in our current time period.

I chose to include an image that represents a more recent, positive approach at maintaining ones physical fitness while having a busy and taxing schedule. This image comes from an instagram account of an influencer who promotes her fitness goals and tips on how to train during a typical nurses schedule of three twelve's per week. It can be very difficult to maintain a workout routine, especially when one is tired from working their shifts. I feel as though many nurses have found creative ways to incorporate daily physical fitness and nutrition goals. This does not only benefit the nurse, but also our patients if we can share some of these motivational tips with them. This image does not relate to many of the other posts, as it takes a more adaptive approach at how one can enhance their health and maintain their goals even when they may feel burnt-out from work.
