MANDATORY Why do you want to be a nurse? When did you decide you wanted to be a nurse? Did anyone or anything influence your decision?

Since I was young, my dream was to become a dentist. I still don't know why, but I always wished all this. However, when I took the test to enter the dentistry's university, I failed. So at that point I had to decide what to do. All I knew was that I'm appassionate about studying scientific subjects, such as Anatomy and Physiology of the body. These subjects were my favorite, since I was in college and for this reason I keep looking for a faculty that could include these disciplines too. So I chose the Faculty of Nursing. The following year I took the entrance exam, this time for nursing, and I passed. Fortunately my parents didn't influence my decision, they were proud of me. Taking care of people is not the only reason why I want to be a nurse, my intent is to increase the awareness of health. I believe that a good nurse should sensitize consciousness among citizens and take care of them.

I decided to summarize this article because, one day, I'd like to work in psychiatric unit.
Psychiatric nurses' job is an actual challenge. In this work environment they have to deal with different mental illness, such as: depression, anxiety, eating disorders, dementia, bipolar disorder, autism etc... Extra safety precautions may be adopted according to disease's severity, to avoid any dangerous situation or endanger patients, people and staff. The safety measures seclusion and restraint must be enacted just in case of extreme need, respecting patients.

Summarize a tv show, movie or book that was set in a hospital/clinic/doctor's office.

I'd like to talk about Grey's Anatomy because it's my favorite TV show.
The story begins with 5 main characters: Meredith, Christina, Alex, George and Izzie. They were interns in Seattle Grace Hospital. The TV show tells the story of this young interns and their experiences. I can't summarize the whole TV show, but I try to summarize an episode.
This episode tells about Meredith's husband, Derek Shepherd. He was on his way to Washington D.C. to quit the President’s brain-mapping project when he had a car accident to save other people involved in a previous crash. Shepherd was taken to the nearest ER; he couldn’t talk. Derek needs a head CT scan, but doctors examined him and took him into surgery without the brain scan.
By the time doctors discovered that he had a blown pupil, Shepherd realized he was about to die. The neurosurgeon arrived at the hospital too late, and pronounced Derek's brain dead.
Meredith was called from the hospital and when she arrived, she saw Derek. She decided to stop life-saving medical treatment and Derek stopped breathing. Meredith hugged him and went back in their house.

In my opinion a nurse might have many qualities and skills. Nurse's job is not only cure patients but take care of them in many ways. A good nurse must possess the quality of listening and he/she must be able to reassure the patient. Future's nurses, like me, have the task of rise the status of the profession, because some people think that nurse's job is a "joke". A nurse uses problem solving scheme and critical thinking to solve problems. Another important nurses' role is inform and raise awareness among citizens to prevent disease. In my working life I hope I can improve those skills.

My last trainee's experience was in ICCU (Intensive Coronary Care Unit) in Tor Vergata Hospital. In this Unit I met 4 nurses: Agnese, Mariarita, Claudio and Barbara. They are highly trained clinical tutors but I want describe the experience with Agnese.
Agnese taught me so many things like: assess different electrocardiograms, RCP, evaluate a critical patient, how to organize procedures etc...
Agnese let me handle the patients because she trusted me. In the first trainee's week she evaluated me, my skills, my attitudes and then we bonded.
She is a perfect nurse: she takes care of patients, doesn't judge them and she is always available.
I’ve never known someone like her and for this reason I tried to catch the best from her.
One day Agnese and I handled an emergency and this episode was really important for my trainee.
The clinical tutor has many responsibilities but is essential for the nursing student’s path.

Write an essay about why you would (or would not) like to be a clinical tutor in future. (100 words)

Being a clinical tutor is a fundamental principle in the nursing profession. This aspect is underlined in an article of "codice deontologico dell'infermiere" (a set of articles explaining how the nurse should behave).
I would like to be a tutor because I like teaching. Nursing students need help finding their way around the hospital, they need a guide.
I believe that relationship between nurse and nursing student improves both. The student can stimulate the clinical tutor to be always updated. The clinical tutor teaches everything he knows to the student because then he will become his future colleague.
So becoming a clinical tutor means being responsible for future generations of nurses and I want do that.
