We are drawn to Pillar 8 about educator preparation. How are we ensuring that educators understand that math education is changing and that what they are learning right now in college may not be what they teach in the future. Similarly, how do we ensure the teacher trainer teachers are also prepared!?

Talked to Josh about wanting to be involved in the LYI work - need a module for pre-service and in-service teachers to help prepare them for the changes that are happening in math education.

For example, many math teacher prep programs don't have current capacity to support teaching new courses like Data Science. We need easy-to-distribute and implement modules about how math is changing, why we need math pathways, and why they are beneficial to student learning.

Many of the Pillars deal with creating new pathways and validating these to lead to college math courses. Many colleges have already created multiple different pathways. AMATYC could be involved with helping develop admissions policies to ensure that students are prepared to enter college at the level they need to succeed..
