A friend of mine contracted malaria while backpacking through Peru. He was near the Peruvian amazon and was bitten by an infected mosquito. He described it as the worst he has ever felt and thought he was dying. He explained even pulling his bed sheets over his body felt like little razor blades due to the infection. He was bed ridden for 4 weeks while being treated.
