The due dates for these 2 projects are:

February 16th and

March 15th

Requirements:

• Students are permitted to use any media in these projects, however traditional paintings in oil or acrylic are not allowed (even though there are a few traditional paintings among the artworks on these pages).

• There are no required sizes for these projects.

• Since timelines to complete them are 4 weeks for each, and that you are expected to work 4 –6 hours/week on classwork outside of class periods, there should be 25+ hours of active engagement for each project, including research and development of your ideas.

• These projects may comprise several small objects/artworks or a single large piece. 

• Projects can be drawing in the traditional sense, or combinations of drawing with other media/approaches. Collages, collections of objects and images, including photographic, notational and/or craft pieces and sculpture are all permitted.

• Whatever media students choose, there must be a HANDMADE element present in the work. Pure collections of found objects and/or photographs do not meet the requirement. Projects need not be entirely handmade, but at least in part.

• Students that wish to use or incorporate artworks from their other studio classes are welcome to do so, however this work will not be considered in the calculation of 25+ hours of active engagement on the project.

• Students will be asked to explain their work with respect to the topic of this course, namely how it is used as a means to question and make propositions about modes of knowing or bodies of knowledge.
