Today was the first day of FMP, and while we didn't actually start, we made sure that we had gotten everything done ready to start. This morning we got all our previous units signed off by our tutors, which was part of the work we had to do to make sure that we were ready for FMP. This afternoon we did a SWOT analysis, talking about our strengths, weaknesses, and possible opportunities and threats that could come up in the process of FMP. It was very useful in making sure that I know what to expect, and making sure I can be ready for any problems that arise.

Today was when we got the assignment brief for FMP, and we have to create something to do with 2016, this could be a documentary, short film, music video, etc. So far I've researched big events, both good and bad in 2016, to make sure that I have plenty of things to form idea around. Tomorrow we'll have a practical workshop so I'll have to finish the mind map and an extra mood board over the weekend.

Today we spent the day mostly doing work unrelated to FMP. This morning we had a talk with an ex-student who had previously worked with Delta and is currently working on a life swap video that he needed our help with. This talk gave me a good insight into how to get into the industry and was quite helpful. The rest of the day we were doing practical work, making tutorial videos on how to use all the different equipment that was available, such as a Jib, Tascam, Steadicam, etc. This was really helpful in giving more information about how to use different pieces of equipment, and it'll no doubt be useful for FMP.

While I don't feel like I learned too much about editing since I knew a lot of things already, but it was ok, and to people who didn't know that much about editing, it would've been helpful.

I conducted some research about current professionals and job roles within my FMP, including Director, Producer, and Editor, so far I'm almost done with producer, and I'm definitely getting better with using my research skills.

I learnt a lot more about masking tools, as well as refreshing my knowledge about combining images and adding effects. Not only this, but I learnt a lot more about using the DSLR cameras and I feel much more confident in using them, as well as basic camera terminology, which will be very useful for my FMP, as it's photography based.

Today was once again focused on doing more research for Task 2. While nothing much was different, I did learn how to properly Harvard Reference my work, and from this I can ensure that my work will hopefully achieve a high grade, as I've been going through the job profiles/industry professionals that I'd already completed, and started making sure my referencing is done in the Harvard format. As well as this, I'm learning a lot more about professionals in the industry who do what I plan to do for FMP, and research is coming along well.

Today was focused on the last of the research, this morning we looked for a source that we could complete a small case study on for task 2. What this does is it provides extra research for FMP, as well as proving that we know how to research how to research non-electronic sources, how to analyse these sources, and that we know how these sources could help us, and our target audiences understand our FMP. For example, I'm doing a photography project, and since I'm an amateur when it comes to photography, I want part of my target audience to be people like me who are getting into photography properly for the first time, because of this I chose my source to be a book talking about an introduction to photography, as, just like my FMP project, this book is accessible to and aimed at people getting into photography, as well as those with more experiences. Also today, I refreshed my knowledge of semiotics and different types of research this morning, which has helped with this work, for example, rather than just thinking about target audiences as a whole, I thought about different demographics, how the source my impact the demographics, and so on. Also, it was also helpful since I learnt new things about researching physcographics, which are a lot like demographics, but are usually based on how people think, or personality traits.

We carried on with research today, and had to gather different forms of primary research, and today functioned a lot like the practical workshops we'd done before. We had to go out in groups and complete an Interview, Vox Pop and Focus Group, much like we'd done for Units 1-4, just in a different format, although I was unable to conduct a vox pop, I will do one with family members at home. I feel like the interview and focus group somewhat helped, and somewhat didn't help too much, for example, thinking of questions to ask people about my photography project was quite difficult, and I don't feel like the questions I asked were too open, they were too specific and inaccessible to the public. However, it did help somewhat, as I feel more confident with conducting focus groups and interviews, although I still don't feel at all confident with Vox Pops. The main problem was not finding anyone who wanted to do a Vox Pop, and this meant that I have to complete one at home, and also meant that I wasn't able to try and improve/become more confident with Vox Pops, which was something I also aimed to do, as those are the primary research skills I need to work on. Although, I have learnt more about how to conduct a focus group/interview, and I'm feeling much more confident with each, due to the primary research I actually conducted going fairly well.

Pre-production started today, and I was working on my production schedule, as this will help with the rest of the pre-production work, because I'll be able to plan when I do certain pieces of work in a way so that they'll be helpful to the pre-production process. Today definitely helped me with my planning skills as I now feel more confident, not only with what I'm doing for FMP but also with my planning and organisational skills in general. I feel this away AS I was able to plan each individual piece of work for FMP with for my production schedule, which laid out everything for me so I know exactly what I should be doing at each moment. I problem I sometimes have is not knowing what I should be doing at certain points, which can hold me back from getting things done quickly and keeping to time. A problem that I ran into was knowing what documents that I had to do. For example, some were designed for people working on films, some were designed for people working in groups, and what I initially had trouble with was knowing which documents I had to plan to fill out for my solo photography project. Although I eventually managed to work out what I was supposed to do via process of elimination, and I feel confident that I've planned out the right documents for pre-production.

Today I had to reconsider what I really needed to do for FMP. For example, some of the documents I listed in my production schedule were irrelevant to my pre-production/production work, and would be unnecessary extra work. So today I removed Budget/Finance and the equipment/facilities booking logs, as I didn't need to fill those out, although I may have to go back to finance at some point. Because of this I managed to get everything for pre-production finished this morning, so that I could carry on working on my unfinished research this afternoon, and this is something I'll do tomorrow. A problem I ran into today was knowing how to fill out my research documents, it was quite vague and I was confused to what I had to do, I asked around however and I understand it more now, however I'll check the brief, because it's still something I'm quite unsure of. Tomorrow I aim to clarify that I have done everything for task 2 and 3, which includes finishing my research, and double checking/adding anything extra to my pre-production. I am feeling very confident with pre-production work now, although I still need work with knowing the purpose of every document, and if it's relevant to me and my work.

After taking all the photos that I need (hopefully all of them) at the weekend, I was able to start on the second production stage today, which was editing my photos in Adobe Photoshop. This morning I worked on the first image, adding some vignette and also adding gaussian blur to the image, while using a mask to keep part of the image clear, this afternoon, I blended an image of the London Orbit with another image of a quiet urban are of London close to the Olympic Park. I didn't really run into any issues today, and I felt like production today went quite smoothly. My targets for tomorrow will be to finish editing my photographs, and to possibly start on planning an exhibition for either next week or the 14th June.

Today I continued with editing my photos, and it's going well so far, I should be done with them all by tomorrow, if I want to continue with editing them. What I did today was adding some contrast to certain areas of my images, while blurring and de-saturating the background of the images, to make certain parts of the image, for example murals, which are the images I focused on today, and are images I might put into the same Photoshop document, to display as one image in my exhibition. I did run into an issue today, which was I didn't know how to add gradients to some of the images, making it hard to blend them together and make them look good at the same time, but tomorrow I'll google search to make sure that I can add a gradient to my images.

I got all the photos finished today, and this means that over the weekend and next week i'll able to work on getting the exhibition planned, as well as completing a contact sheet to print off my photos. I felt like everything went well today, I finished off the bandstand image from yesterday, using online sources (http://www.wikihow.com/Fade-One-Image-Onto-Another-in-Photoshop) to help me with fading the two images together, meaning that I was finally happy with the finished result. As well as this, I worked on a second image that I had planned yesterday, but never actually went along with, as I didn't think it looked too good. What I wanted to do was have an image of a boring, modern London skyline, and no images i had offered that, since I wanted an image to contrast the ones with bright murals and lively communities, although I realised that I could use this image, not just because of the high-rises, but because of the parlour right in front, which was clearly a hub of the community, compared to the looming office/apartment block behind it. However, I'm not sure which variant I like better as of yet, so I saved two of them. I don't think I ran into to many issues today, I managed to solve the issue I had yesterday, and other than that there was nothing that really impeded the production process. For next week, and over the weekend, I'll write up some text which will be used for my exhibitions, and I'll also research some ideas for presenting my work, as well as thinking about how I'm going to get feedback on my project.

Today I carried on with trying to improve on my marked Task 2, and I worked on the planning sheet for my task 2 audience research. While working on it, I had to talk about the different kinds of research I did, what the aim of the research was, and what I found out from it, after this, I had to write a summary of my findings. I did run into some issues with it, as I was unsure of how to reference certain things, such as not knowing how to reference, and even find a media kit online for a magazine that I needed for demographic research. As much as this Task 2 work is taking a while, I do feel like I am going to get everything done for the deadline on Wednesday, as the plan for the rest of the week is to finish Task 2, get the photos printed on Friday and also work on the evaluation over the weekend. My personal target today was to work on Task 2 and make sure it's been completed to a high level, and I feel like I have completed this target well, although I think I could've worked a bit faster today, as I didn't feel too motivated to work, I wasn't able to do as much as I should have done.

Once again, I carried on with Task 2 improvements, and I definitely think it's taking longer than expected. For example, the research planning documents are taking up the bulk of my time because I originally thought I didn't have to do them. However, I do think that tomorrow, I'll be able to work on the final parts of getting this done, so that I'll be able to complete my evaluation over the weekend, as well as preparing for my presentation. I think that the work today went ok, although I was a bit confused in terms of writing about my secondary research findings, I don't feel like I found out too much from my research, although I can mention that in my evaluation, as things to avoid in the future, because not knowing what to take from my research just makes it a waste of time. However, I did my work today, and I'm happy with how it's turning out, and I know how to conduct my research better next time.

Today I finally finished the extra work from Task 2 and I think I've done it to a much better standard than my first attempt. For example, I've completed my research planning sheets, where as they hadn't been done before, I've also completed research about psychographics and demographics of certain photography magazines, which would help me look further at target audiences, namely amateur photographers. The results quite surprised me, as a lot of "amateur photographers" had or were planning to invest a lot in their hobby, for example most of them had a DSLR, most were willing to spend up to £1000 on a camera also, I assumed most of them would be at the first levels of becoming a beginner. I didn't really run into any problems today, as I managed to finish my work to a standard I'm happy with, as well as having a clear plan in place for the weekend in terms of doing all the work I need to do.
