Summary

In this chapter, teachers are discussing alternative options for books and student work. With budgets being cut across districts, teachers are looking for alternative options other than text books and printing tons of paper copies. Teachers discussed which online storage would be the best for their district. For these particular teachers, they decided dropbox was the best option. It took a little front loading with the students to set up accounts and for teachers to upload documents but they were able to work through it and begin using it. Teachers were worried that all students would not have access to the internet outside of school to access the documents. It was decided that students, if they wanted, could still turn in hard copies of the assignments to the teacher. By the end of the year, they were able to reflect and see that this was a great alternative to when they could not purchase the books needed and give all students access to the same material whether at school or home.

Additional Strategy

An additional strategy I identify with is individual instruction. I really like this strategy because you can really tailor the needs of each student. It does take a lot of front loading by knowing your standards and creating entry tests for the students. However, why would we want them to work on concepts they have already mastered? This is when students become bored and can also lead to trouble in the classroom. By letting students, work on their level, we will see more success. This also allows us to work with our lower students more frequently and make sure they are really mastering the concepts before moving on.
