Using Interactive Notebooks helps to personalize learning. One struggle I have with my students is to motivate them to come to school and be active learners. Allowing them to create a notebook that expresses who they are can add to the motivation of attending class. It is also a great place for students to compile all their notes and questions for each topic.
Interactive Notebooks could help prevent students from feeling bored.

Interactive notebooks provide individualized opportunities for students to complete an assignment. It can be differentiated so that all students are challenged, but not frustrated by the task. This could also allow for a "assignment menu" where students choose how they will put the information in their notebooks.

Challenges with Interactive Notebooks

-Additional Prep is needed, especially for students who struggle to stay organized. This can lead to a big mess and not really have a clear flow of topics.
-There is not a way to formatively assess students.
-Minimal way for immediate/quick feedback with students.
-Most interactive notebooks are used as a supplemental assignment to reinforce lessons learned in class. This can be monotonous to a student who has mastered a skill. (But it can be great for the struggling student.)
