The show became a popular franchise due to Irwin's unconventional approach to wildlife. It spawned a number of separate projects, including the feature film The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course and two television spinoffs: The Crocodile Hunter Diaries and Croc Files. The series has been presented on Animal Planet and has been in international syndication on networks worldwide.  The series aired 60 episodes during five seasons, from 1996 through 2007.

Sir David Attenborough, broadcaster and naturalist, graduated with a degree in natural Sciences from Cambridge University in 1947 and first joined the BBC in 1952.  He has presented many natural history series, including The Living Planet, Life in the Freezer and The Private Life of Plants.  He was knighted for services to television in 1995, and in 1996 won the title of The Greatest Living British Icon.
He says of his role as presenter, ‘It is vital that there is a narrator figure whom people believe. That's why I never do commercials. If I started saying that margarine was the same as motherhood, people would think I was a liar.’
