Listening Activities

I would like to use station activity because it helped me think over how much my way of teaching is helping the students comprehend the meaning and if the techniques I have been using in the class is apprpriate for the age of my students.

Also using chants and songs activities listen and point activities or listen and do activities are another useful activities I would like to use both in my PDC meetings with my colleague and in my classes with my students.

In both activities I will act as a guide. I am going to introduce he activities to my colleagues and show them how they can use it to enhance teaching skills.

Speaking Activities (Poster for the Lesson Plan)

In today's session we made a poster demonstrate our lesson plan. The group discussed the most useful activities to teach the chosen dialogue to the sts and shared the work in group. I liked it so much. It was a very good example of group work. Also it can match the engage and share stage of PDC cycle. After the posters were ready they were evaluated by the other groups and we could see if we had skipped any step in our lesson plan. Therefore the activity can match reflect and evaluate stage of PDC cycle.

In my PDC meeting I would use this activity to guide my colleagues follow the steps of any lesson plan. I don't think which skill we aim to improve is important. It can be reading listening or grammar. Most probably I would change the skill to reading and also I would ask the groups to choose the age levels to let them see different lesson plans for different age levels of primary learners.

Reading Session(Spelling Activities)

Spelling session starts with a warm up activity. We were supposed to write what our strategies should be when we teach spelling on a board. However at the end of the activity I realized that we all wrote an activity name not a strategy when our trainer showed possible answers. This reminds me that I should think about the objective of the lesson first then I can decide the activity. During the engage and share stage the trainer gave the groups different activities arrenged for the lessons with different objectives and age levels. This helped me think about activity type and suitability to age level and ways to adapt them to the levels of my classes.

In my PDC meeting I would like to do a similar activity with the unscramled words as a warm up activity I will most probably prepare a digital version of it with draggable words. Also for engage and share stage of the meeting I would like to use the activity with different spelling activities. Thinking about the activity with a questionaire will help my colleagues plan the lessons according to the students level. I hope I will help them think about their teaching process more deeply and guide them the way you do for us. Today's session was so encouraging for me. I think I like teaching reading most as a skill. Thank you Lise and Burcu. Both of you were inspiring.

Classroom Management

The biggest problem of teachers in my area is crowded classrooms and we as English teachers have lots of difficulties in mantaining the control when applying activities. The aspects of stirring, settling and brain break can help my colleagues mantain the control when they are doing an activity. What's more improving their classroom management skills might help teachers overcome the problem of exhaustion and it might probably increase their willingness to create an atmosphere which is more convenient for young learners to learn better.

Like my colleagues I have crowded classes in my school and I like to use a variety of activities. I can sometimes be challenging to control the whole class when applying especially group works. Of course I have been using some classroom management strategies since I started teaching and have been reflecting and evaluating my techniques year after year according to sts responds and my own needs but the strategies I learned here such as stirring and settling has given me lots of new ideas to apply in my classroom. What's more brain break is what I apply in my classes but I also noticed that I have used it for limited purposes. I will use brain break more frequently in my classes for more suitable purposes.

The day before the hardest task :)(Day 6)

I would use this content for the engage and share stage of PDC meeting. At the beggining of my PDC session I would give them KWL chart to fill in to learn what they already know about formative assessment and what they need to learn and discuss more. With the more confident ones who have the background information about formative assessment I would try to share different types of activities they can apply in their classroom. Moreover I would discuss how they can evaluate different aspects of language learning by doing formative assessment. On the other side if the participants are less knowlegable I would try to help them understand what a formative asssessment is , how we can use them during the teaching learning process both for the students who needs help and for the regulations in our teaching process.

The materials for the PDC meating with knowlegable one would be colourful papers, cardboards, stickies, any other stationaries we could think about for preparing a child friendly assessment sheet and digital tools . And also stationaries would be the basic necessity in my PDC meeting with less knwlegable colleagues but I think I would use digital tools more with this group because they need the information of what the farmation is.
