This led to a period of instability in the government and constant leadership changes. The revolution also led to the military playing a more influential role in politics. Cuba was very close to the United States, which made it an attractive spot for American mobsters, especially during Prohibition when they needed a place to keep their operations going. Also the government in Cuba was unstable therefore the criminals were able to thrive. </p></li><li><p>Effects: Organized crime in Cuba led to a lot of corruption and influenced politics. The criminals money helped them to become close with powerful people, which meant they could operate without much interference. This also affected the Cuban people, as the crime organizations were involved in a lot of illegal activities that could be harmful to the public. </p></li><li><p>Significance: It ultimately set the stage for more instability, which was the main factor that led up to the Cuban Revolution in the late 1950s.</p></li></ul>]]></description>
