This reveals that Nwoye was ashamed of the religion of Christianity. When he converted to Christianity he feared his fathers reaction. This is a repetition of the theme fear as we see Okonkwo feared being like his dad, and Nwoye feared his dad finding out about his religion.

This reveals that Okonkwo is extremely aggressive, being compared to a roaring flame shows how nerve-racking he could be.

This is important because Okonkwo is respecting others for the work they did for him. He finally cared about others and thanked them for what they did.

This demonstrates Okonkwo's resolve to leave Nwoye with his decision instead of fighting for him. He chose to forget about Nwoye by distancing himself. 




"An abominable religion has settled among you."(Chapter 19)

This quote is aimed at the next generation who is predicted to persuaded into Christianity. It shows that the igbo people hate Christianity and they think that it is a bad religion, this is because of the way the missionaries choose to spread the religion, they slander the igbo religion and they also had a mass slaughter of igbo people in one of the villages
