Individuals with high-functioning ASD do not have special needs and shouldn't have an IEP
Accomodating certain studnets takes awawy from the whole class
Ms.Foster is complaining to coworkers about a child creating a negative school environment
Ms. Foster rpeaedtly shows she cares less for Aiden's experience than her other studnets who don't qualify for an IEP.

Perspectives

Ms. Stintson - well-educated and prepared for her position as a special education teacher with students in various classroom and grade levels. She understands the importance of communicating with family and following an IEP. She knows the process of setting up an IEP ensures that this student is in need of accomodations that current school year.

Principal - Doesn't have much presence, but seems to enforce that tecahers follow IEPs. The prinicpal gave a warning for Ms.Stintson to prepare her students and expects her to be able to do so. An authoritaive figure gave an "order" or request to their subordinante and another less-qualifed subbordinate shouldn't be interfering.

Ms. Foster - is ignorant when it comes to disabilities, students with disabilities, lesiglation, and IEPs particularly. General education teacher who only can see the results and grades of the students. Doesn't believe IEP is help

Aiden - has ASD and with the IEP he is able to be in LRE, a

Aiden's parents - they have learned what enivornmental factors and events can cause their son distress or prolonged negative effects. They work their best to inform the school about their son in hopes he won't be sent home unneccesarilyy upset or effected.

Challenges

-Preparation and noise reduction headphones for fire drills are not in Aiden's IEP

-General Edcuation teacher, Ms. Foster does not believe the student needs their IEP and does their best to put the minimum effort in following the plan

-the fire drill needs to be a "surprise"

-Ms. Stintson does her plan she desrcibed to Ms.Foster

-Aiden get through the fire drill the best he can

-Ms.Stinstons and Ms.Foster can advocate for an earlier IEP meeting if possuble to address their concerns.

-Ms. Stintson can let the parents know that a procedure for the fire drill won't be respected or protected by other staff if it is not on the legal document. She can let them know how to add what is needed on and reassure them she will assist them with making that change.

Short Term Solution

Ms. Stinton should notify the principal that Ms. Foster is refusing to take the necessary measures to make sure this drill doesn't negatively impact students. Providing Aiden with headphones and a warning is the most important and relevant task as the fire drill is the same day.

Long term Solution

A long term solution could be to require more training and development for Ms. Foster before she can return teaching or possibly a termination or suspension to show the urgency and necessity of following IEP and legislation. She is opening the school up to be sued or worse.
